Best Expandable Trailers

Expandable trailers have several different names – expandable, pop-up, tent camper – but they are all basically the same thing. These RVs are a lightweight trailer camper that folds down for a lower profile and easy hauling. They not only work great for folks with smaller vehicles that can’t tow a huge fifth-wheel or large trailer, but also for those folks who want to enjoy camping without the expense of those other large RVs. These types of campers prove that you don’t have to spend a lot of money to get out and enjoy RVing. Here are five of the best expandable trailers you can get for under $10,000.

2017 Forest River Flagstaff SE 176SE

Forest Rover Flagstaff SE

Coming on to our list with an MSRP of $9,358, the Flagstaff from Forest River is a great camper for the adventurous-minded RVer. These lightweight expandables weigh in at 1,722 pounds (781.1kgs) and can be towed by just about anything, even many UTVs if you’re headed off-road. One of the many reasons to like this model is the ground clearance. With the camper body up high off the wheels, it will clear more terrain for going back into the more remote campsites. It’ll sleep up to six with a queen at one end, a full-size at the other and a fold-down table/bench bed. Check out the full specs here.

2017 Coachmen Clipper Express 9.0

Coachmen Clipper Express

You may have seen some of those shows on the lifestyle networks talking about tiny house living. Well, it also applies to the RV world with campers like the Clipper Express from Coachman. With an MSRP of just $3,869, the Clipper is just right for those of us that just want a bed to sleep on and a little bit of space to get dressed in the morning. These tiny campers weigh less than 700 pounds and have a bed big with room enough for two. Check out the full specs here.

2017 Forest River Rockwood Freedom 1940LTD

Forest River Rockwood

The Rockwood Freedom model from Forest River comes onto this list with an MSRP of $7,640 and a lot of features that make for a little added luxury in the campsite. It has a queen bed on the hitch end and a full-sized bed out back. The dinette folds down for a third bed, allowing six to sleep in comfort. There is a two-burner for the outside hookup, letting you prepare meals under the nine-foot awning. The Freedom pulls easy with a dry weight of just over 1,600 pounds, making this a great go-anywhere expandable tent RV for just about anyone. Check out the full specs here.

2017 Livin Lite QuickSilver 6.0

Livin Lite QuickSilver

When the three of you just need a comfy place to sleep when you’re on the go, the QuickSilver is a pretty neat deal. With an MSRP of just $5,949, it is a very minimal pop-up camper. The living space consists of a sleeper sofa, table and a stand/storage area, and then there is a full-size bed. The whole unit compacts down into a small trailer that weighs a mere 712 pounds, meaning this little camper can be towed by just about anything. Check out the full specs here.

2017 Coachmen Clipper LS 107 LS

Coachmen Clipper

Coachman again makes this list with the Clipper LS. The LS, with an MSRP of $9,490, gives you plenty of room and storage space, making it a great way to escape into the wild. The LS sleeps up to seven, with two end bunks, a dinette that folds into a bed and lounge seating that sleeps another happy camper. It’ll tow well, with a dry weight of just 1,786 pounds and if you really want to stay cool in the summer heat, opt for the optional air conditioner. If not, just find a lake, set the camper up in a few minutes and kick back. Check out the full specs here.
