Frank Hugelmeyer has been named the next president of the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA). Hugelmeyer will officially take the seat on October 1 after Richard Coon, who has held the position for the past 10 years, retires.

RVIA April Shipments

As we reported last week, RV Shipments were up 7.9% in the first quarter of 2015, compared to the first quarter of 2014. That trend continued in April, which saw a whopping 13.5% increase compared to April last year.

The data comes from a survey of manufacturers done by the Recreational Vehicle Industry Assocation. According to the survey, towable shipments are up 14.2% in April to 33,884 unitis, while motorhomes are up 9.0% to 4,459 units. rvia-lg0427According to a recent survey, nearly half of RV owners are planning to spend more time on the road this spring and summer than a year ago as the RV industry celebrates its Centennial.

The survey comes from the latest Campfire Canvass, a biannual survey of RV owners by the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA). It shows that 45.4 percent of the more than 8.2 million U.S. RV owners expect to travel more this summer than they did last year, while 41.9 percent say they’ll travel the same amount.

“For a century, Americans have enjoyed exploring what’s over the next hill and around the bend,” says Richard Coon, president of the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association. “That pioneering spirit is still alive and well today.”

rvtravel0415With the summer vacation season approaching and airlines announcing additional passenger fees, the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) says RV rentals are looking more attractive than ever.

RVs eliminate airline passenger fees for luggage, fuel surcharges, meals and in-flight entertainment, while helping travelers avoid flight delays and airport gridlock.

“Travelers leave all the hassles behind when they go by RV,” says Richard Coon, president of the RVIA. “What they don’t leave behind are all the comforts of home.”
