2012 Forest River Work & Play 30WR Review
Affordable toy hauler lets you bring the fun with you
The Work & Play comes in a range of floorplans, both in travel trailer and fifth wheel models. We’re going to be taking a look at the 30WR, one of the travel trailer options. It has an exterior length of 36’, an exterior height of 10’10” and an interior height of 84”. The Work & Play has a dry hitch weight of 1,074 lbs, a dry ship weight of 8,919 lbs, a GVWR of 13,074 lbs and a cargo carrying capacity of 4,096 lbs. As well, this toy hauler has a fresh water capacity of 80 gallons, a gray water capacity of 38 gallons and a black water capacity of 38 gallons.
Starting with an aluminium body and built on a heavy duty steel cargo style frame, the Work & Play is built with smooth fiberglass sidewalls, a one-piece aluminum roof, and full steel 4-1/4" C-channel roof trusses (6" on center). In the garage area, you’ll find two windows, non-skid flooring, ramp with a heavy duty steel re-enforced ramp door (rated for up to 5,000 lb. rolling weight), transition flap between the ramp and the floor, vinyl interior walls for easy cleanup and installed D-rings. There are a few options available for the garage, including escape door, overhead cabinets and fuel station. The Work & Play has 6000 lbs EZ lube axles with Goodyear Marathon Radial tires, which allows for a heavier cargo-carrying capacity. It also features twin 30lb propane tanks.
Other exterior features include ducted air, an insulated ceiling, a 6 gallon fast recovery water heater DSI, an RV door with a screen, an awning, a 15,000 BTU roof air conditioner, stabilizer jacks, TV antenna/outside cable, and aluminum wheels. In the way of options, the Work & Play has numerous upgrades, including a 4000 Onan generator, Beavertail frame, a 10 gallon DSI water heater, an outside shower, spare tire, a generator rack, an extra entrance door and outside speakers.
One of the great things about having a toy hauler is that you can turn the garage into an extra sleeping area. The Work & Play has the option of adding a dinette table, bunks and flip-up couches. This is a great idea if you plan on having overnight guests and are leaving the ATV at home.
Inside the 30WR, you’ll feel right at home. Mini blinds and valances give it a homey feel, while residential furniture is not only comfortable but functional, too. In this floorplan, when you step inside the 30WR, you’re greeted by the living area. Here, you find a roomy dinette that gives you a perfect view of the TV stand. For your storage needs, there is overhead cabinetry that will safely and conveniently store your essentials.
To the opposite side of the toy hauler, you’ll find the fully equipped kitchen. The six-cubic-foot refrigerator, three-burner cooktop and microwave oven make eating on the go easy. For prep and clean up duty, the kitchen also features a countertop and double well stainless steel sink.
You’ll find that the bedroom in the Work & Play is a welcome retreat after a day of playing hard. Rest comfortably on the queen-sized bed, and keep all your clothes and essentials in the two bedside wardrobes or in the overhead cabinets.
Our last stop on the Forest River Work & Play tour is the bathroom. There will be no outhouses for you – this bathroom is pretty sweet (and smells that way too). It comes equipped with a shower, a toilet and a lavatory sink. It’s got everything you need to clean up after a long day on the ATV.
If that’s not enough for you, the Work & Play comes with a host of options. These include an oven, a bedspread and pillow shams, an AM/FM/CD/DVD stereo, a single electric bed, a flip dinette and a rear pull-down screen.
