2012 Jayco Greyhawk 31FS Review
Class C is your home away from home
Offering five floorplans to choose from, Greyhawk can sleep up to nine people. We’ll be taking a tour of the 31FS, one of the larger models in the series. It measures in with an exterior length of 32’7”, an exterior height of 136”, an interior height of 84”, and a storage capacity of 37 cubic feet. The Greyhawk has a GVWR of 14,500 lbs and a GCWR of 19,500 lbs. In terms of water, it has a fresh water capacity of 39 gallons, a gray waste water capacity of 44 gallons and a black waste water capacity of 32 gallons.
Built on a Ford E-450 chassis with a five-speed TorqShift automatic transmission, the 2012 Jayco Greyhawk is powered by a 6.8L EFI V-10 305 HP engine with power anti-lock brakes and power steering. With this kind of power and control, this class C motorhome can effortlessly tow up to 5,000 lbs. And, with its MOR/ryde frame, which extends the chassis, the Greyhawk offers optimal weight distribution. Plus, its durable design features one-piece assembly, laser-shear, tight-fit construction and consistent, robotically welded structure, which means you’ll be enjoying this RV for years to come.
Let’s move on to construction. The Greyhawk’s vacuum-bonded sidewalls feature a high-gloss, gel-coated HG 4000 fiberglass exterior. You can choose to upgrade with Diamond Shield paint protection, which stands up to use, travel and UV rays, all while looking shiny and fabulous. Underfoot, the Structurwood floor gives you a strong foundation. Overhead, the one-piece TuffShell roof comes equipped with bead-foam insulation (R-15) and a padded ceiling that helps maintain interior temperatures and absorb sound. As well, the Greyhawk’s roof features 1/4" plywood decking on 5" arched welded aluminum trusses. The Greyhawk also comes with an aerodynamically designed front cap that helps increase gas mileage.
The Jayco Greyhawk is designed so you can make the most of your trip – which means it has features that make life on the road easier. Things such as accessible pass-through storage, electric-powered, swing-away, remote-controlled and heated sideview mirrors and hydraulic automatic leveling jacks, mean that you’ll never have to rough it if you don’t want to. Other features include a standard, fuel-efficient Onan 4,000-watt generator and a Carefree Travel’r 12V electric patio awning with adjustable pitch.
Enough about the outside – let’s move inside and take a look around. Giving it a homey feel, the Greyhawk 31FS features a variety of decor options, including Crimson, Walnut and Nutmeg, that are all complemented by solid real-wood cabinetry and weathered iron bronze hardware. Keeping things comfortable, this class C motorhome comes equipped with a 15,000-BTU ducted A/C and a 31,000 BTU auto-ignition furnace.
Moving up front to the cab, the 2012 Greyhawk makes sure that whoever is driving has a comfortable ride – that’s why Jayco installed six-way power Optima leather driver seat. As well, the driver and passenger seats come equipped with 3-point lap and shoulder safety belts and air bags. If it’s a long drive, you can choose to upgrade to optional Sirius satellite radio that gives you over 180 channels to choose from. Other cab features include a padded fabric headliner, an auxiliary start switch, privacy curtains for the cab area and remote keyless entry.
Heading into the open-concept living area, you’ll have everything you need to enjoy your down time. A J-Steel sofa (which can be outfitted with lap safety belts) gives you the perfect spot to watch the game on the overhead LCD HDTV. The Dream Dinette (you can swap this with a hide-a-bed sofa) features a mechanism that raises and lowers dinette tabletop. There’s also an option to add bunks over the cab area if you need the extra sleeping quarters.
The Greyhawk’s kitchen takes “meals on wheels” to a whole new level. Stay well fed during your travels with a three-burner range with 9,000-BTU SuperBurner and piezo igniter, an oversized oven, an eight cu.-ft. flush-mount refrigerator with double doors and a microwave oven with a carousel. Getting at utensils is easy, thanks to ball bearing drawer guides that come with a 75-lb.capacity and full-drawer extension. Little things, such as a water purification system and a cutting board cover for the sink, really make a difference, as does the residential-style, double-bowl kitchen sink and single-lever faucet with a pull-out sprayer.
Onto the bedroom, your own private retreat features a queen-sized bed with Cloud Ten pillowtop mattress. For your storage needs, it comes outfitted with large wardrobes, plus there’s under-bed storage, as the bed lifts easily on its gas struts. Right next to the master bedroom are bunk beds, perfect for the kids to get a good night’s sleep.
Finally, the bathroom finishes our tour of the Jayco Greyhawk. It comes with all the essentials – an ABS shower with one-piece surround, a marine toilet with foot flush and a lav sink.
Other interior upgrades include Clarion infotainment system with in-dash, touch-screen radio with 6.5” LCD color display, DVD/USB, Sirius satellite prep and Bluetooth, an in-motion satellite dish, a 22" LCD HDTV in the bedroom, driver/passenger side view cameras, a navigation system and a front entertainment center with 32" LCD HDTV.
The 2012 Jayco Greyhawk 31FS Class C Motorhome starts in price from $95,803. For more information, visit http://www.jayco.com/.
