2017 Jayco Precept 31UL Review
Jayco's luxurious Class A motorhome
Available in four beautiful floorplans, we’ve decided to take a closer look at the 31UL. It has a gross vehicle weight rating of 22,000 lbs and gross combined weight rating of 26,000 lbs. It has an exterior length of 32’2”, exterior width of 101”, exterior height with A/C of 12’7”, interior height of 84” and a wheelbase of 190”. For tanks, it has a fresh water capacity of 71.5 gallons, gray wastewater capacity of 40 gallons, black wastewater capacity of 50 gallons and fuel tank capacity of 80 gallons. It can sleep four people comfortably.
Just like all of Jayco’s motorhomes, the Precept is engineered with JRide Plus, the industry’s first Ride and Handling package. JRide Plus features Bilstein shock absorbers, which provide optimum vehicle control. Jayco boats that they last 2-3 times longer than the conventional twin tube piston found in other luxury motorhomes. JRide Plus also comes with a computer-balanced driveshaft, which ensures it is properly tuned, reducing shudder and vibrations, and providing your wheels with power. Then there are the jounce bumpers – they absorb impact and reduce excess road noise and vibration. A standard rear stabilizer bar connects opposite wheels together, adding rigidity to the frame and reducing tilting when taking corners. The heavy-duty front stabilizer bar provides even more support and is designed to make the Jayco Precept easier to handle than most luxury motorhomes on the market.

On the outside, the Jayco Precept looks like a thing of beauty. The exterior features white high-gloss fiberglass walls, a seamless, crowned fiberglass roof and a one-piece fiberglass front and rear cap. Lockable pass-through storage compartments come with slam latches, and the slideout battery tray comes with two 12-volt house batteries. When you’re ready to go inside, walk up the electric-powered entrance step, and through the entrance door, which comes with the industry’s largest travel view window.
Jayco built the Precept around a Ford F53 chassis, while power comes courtesy of a 6.8L Triton V-10 320 HP gas engine. The six-speed automatic TorqShift transmission comes with overdrive and tow-haul mode. For the driver’s safety, the Precept has front and rear disc, four-wheel anti-lock brakes. The Pioneer in-dash infotainment system has a touch screen, along with AppleCarPlay and Android Auto integration. To make driving as safe as possible, there are backup and side-view cameras with a monitor. The 120” panoramic windshield provides you with a perfect view of the road. The driver and passenger sit in the six-way power swivel driver and passenger seats, designed to keep you comfortable, even on long roadtrips.
When you’re done driving for the day, take a short walk to your living room. For lighting, the large windows soak in lots of natural light and the padded vinyl ceiling is equipped with high-intensity recessed LED ceiling lights. You can kick back on the tri-fold sofa and turn on your LED television. The Jayco Precept provides you with all the entertainment you need – it features satellite prep and Cable TV hookup with a RG-6 coax and video selector switch. If you want to enjoy your favorite movies outside, you can make use of the exterior entertainment center, equipped with a 39-inch LED television with single disc AM/FM radio.
