2018 Keystone Springdale Summerland Mini 1800BH Review

Bunk beds and light weight make this travel trailer family-friendly

By Kama Lee Jackson, Jan. 05, 2018
The 2018 Keystone Springdale Summerland Mini makes it easy for a family of four, five, or even six to hit the road for a camping adventure. Being lightweight, it is easily towable by a mid-sized SUV.

In the Springdale Summerland Mini Series, the 1800BH is one of four floorplans available. It has a shipping weight 3195 lbs, carrying capacity of 1205 lbs and hitch weight of 440 lbs. It measures 21’ 5” long, 10’ 6” high. It has a fresh water capacity of 27 gallons, a gray water capacity of 30 gallons, and a waste water capacity of 30 gallons as well. The 20 lb. propane tank sits right behind the hitch.

There’s a large pass-through storage space at the front of the trailer, perfect for loading up your longer items. A manual awning extends your living space to the outdoors and exterior speakers, which are connected to the multimedia unit inside, bring the entertainment. It’s Bluetooth capable, so you can control the tunes from your smartphone or tablet while sitting outside. There’s also an exterior shower so you don’t need to trek the day’s mud inside.

Entering the trailer, the kitchen is to your left.  For a small travel trailer, there’s ample countertop space beside the sink. The high-rise faucet above the single bowl sink makes it a little easier to wash dishes. A good-sized window above the sink gives you a good view during meal prep and cleanup. They’ve oriented the two-burner cooktop front-to-back instead of side-by-side as a way to maximize countertop space. A hood with fan and light is directly above the burners. For kitchen storage, you have two full-extension drawers and a big double-wide cabinet above the counter.  There’s also a full-height pantry with shelving and a taller open space. The seven-cubic-foot refrigerator has a freezer compartment inside, and a residential microwave.

The control panel for the multimedia entertainment center is right in front of the sink on the cabinet front.  It controls both the inside and outside speakers and is also Bluetooth capable. Across from the kitchen area is the dinette booth, which comfortably sits four. The table does drop down to create extra sleeping space for overnight guests. A window allows for natural light and views while at the table, and overhead cabinetry gives you some more storage space. The wall space behind one of the benches is prepped for a television with a bracket and connections.

Head to the back of the trailer to find the bathroom, which has a foot-flush lever toilet, sink with storage underneath, and mirrored medicine cabinet above. One of the trailer's great features is the tub shower, making it easier to bathe children after a busy, fun, and dirty day. There’s also a skylight/vent fan to let all that moisture and steam out, and some natural light in.

Bunk beds have a 300 lb. capacity to fit small and big kids alike and are right outside the bathroom for easy nighttime trips.  Each bunk has an LED light, and there’s also a window in the bottom bunk.

The main sleeping area is at the front of the trailer. There’s a window at one end of the queen-size bed and a nightstand at the other end with USB and electrical outlets. For storage, there’s a cupboard above the nightstand with a rail for hanging clothing and a full-length storage space above the bed is a great place to stash extra blankets and clothes.
