Disapointed
By Jim (I am an Owner) on Sep 04, 2014We are disappointed with our Coachman Travel trailer. I live in the same town as the manufacturer but had to go over a hundred miles away to find a dealer. The dealer sold me an extended warranty but I have to travel over a hundred miles to use it. We have had several problem with this trailer that ... should have taken a deal a few minutes to fix but it was not worth the travel. I contacted the manufacturer and they did finally fix an electrical problem I had but will not fix the other things. I will not buy another Coachman. I have one for sale.Rating breakdown

The best floorplan for larger families
By BaylisClan (I am an Owner) on Feb 10, 2011We love our Coachmen Catalina. Have only had it one season but it fit our family of five perfectly.Pros: Outside kitchen, only the coolest thing since sliced bread, we have people doing the double take as they walk by our trailer, great conversation starter. And for families like ours, where I wake ... up at 05:00 and everyone else wakes up at 08:00 it's an irreplaceable convenience. I am usually two pots in before anybody else is even thinking morning coffee. Outside bathroom door entrance, keeps the dirt outside where it belongs, and guests aren't tromping through your trailer all day. Nice big awning Lots of interior room height. The children's bedroom houses up to four, no breaking down the beds everyday. And there is room for them to hang on rainy days. The fit and finish are second to none at the price point, it feels like a second home. Lots of easily accessible storage. Outside speakers, do not have to blare music from the inside to have background music. Big Beautiful windows, there is a huge window in the dinette area, and the children's bedroom. U shaped dinette, with a couple of fold up chairs added, we have had eight people around the table, a bit of a tight fit, but doable, try that with a standard set up. Cons: Please note, we love our trailer, so take the cons in stride. At this price point you aren't going to get everything you want. Outdoor kitchen, yes, I know I said I love it and I do. But the fact that the coleman stove is not plumbed into the mainline so you can run it off of your main propane bottles confounds me. So you either have to rig up a twenty foot gas line to the nub which is closer to the front door than the kitchen or carry a 20 pound propane bottle with you. It's a bit heavy, we haul the trailer with a Dodge Durango with a Hemi, and though the vehicle hauls it well enough, you sure know it's back there. Tin siding blows, again, it's a price point issue, hard side costs more. But once again, tin siding will show every ding and dent, and is so thin it's not a matter if, it's just a matter of when. Sleep Sofa, one word, backache, if you don't want your guests to stay long, make em sleep on this thing, they'll be getting a hotel room, toot sweet. Lighting, there are plenty of lighting options available to you but the placement of some of the lights baffles me. The children's bedroom lights are awkward to reach from the beds, so if , for example the child who's bed is over the outside kitchen wants to read a book before bed, the only option available to them is the central light which disturbs everyone else. Some forethought there would have really been an easy inexpensive way to add to this trailer. Not satellite ready, maybe not an issue for some but we are travelling across Canada and the states for two months next year and we likes our TV. No book shelf on one side of master bed, it is a major gripe from my wife that she has no shelf to place a bottle of water or her phone, book and so forth. Doesn't affect me of course, I have one...lol Small low window by the kitchen sink, practically useless for anyone over 5 foot tall, sounds like a small inconvenience but not being able to see the children when preparing food or washing dishes is rather annoying. Overall: Like I already said, we absolutely love our trailer, it is comfortable, well made, lots of nice touches for the price point. The outside kitchen is just absolutely beyond a doubt, undeniably, the coolest thing ever. This being said, we have just traded the trailer in on a 2011 Palomino Thoroughbred Elite 31BHS, which is bitter sweet. The new trailer is a bit of an upgrade, it took care of all the niggly things that I originally wanted but couldn't get at the time we bought the Catalina. Ie: Hard sided, aluminum frame, satellite ready, power awning, direct hookups to main propane tanks for the outside kitchen and BBQ, no more carrying an extra propane bottle, lighter, less tongue weight, inflate-a-bed sofa couch ( I guess we don't hate our guests that much), Surround Sound, ( I personally think that's silly, but i'm not saying no) a Serta mattress (though the Catalina Mattress is quite comfortable). Other than what I stated above, it's essentially the same trailer. The reason the trade is bitter sweet, is we really do love the Catalina and had plans on making many happy family memories with it, though I'm sure this feeling will subside once the snow melts and the new trailer is sitting on a campsite somewhere. After scouting out a lot of trailers at all different price points, we believe you can't beat the value for money this trailer represents.Rating breakdown
