Highly impressed
By Richard Hutchinson (I am an Owner) on Mar 01, 2015We purchased our CC 38FL new in the spring of 2014. Upon taking delivery it was pointed out to us that the counter top was cracked at a point behind the stove top all the way back to the side wall of the rig. This was put right by the dealer but it took FR several attempts to send a counter top that ... arrived undamaged. Being a middle aged couple who's kids have left home the layout really suits us. It isn't too often that we would need to use either of the inflatable mattress sofa beds in the lounge but we know they are there if needed. We have actually used them when we had a guest stay with us and apparently it is very comfortable. One thing it could perhaps do with in the lounge is a rail to hang a privacy curtain from when needed for bedroom. The 46" tv and sound system take some getting used to and may not be the quality one would expect for such a high end unit. Personally, I would have preferred it if they had left one of the sofas as a recliner as it was in the 2013 model. This would have been more practical in my opinion. The kitchen is well laid out with plenty of floor space and cupboard space for pots, pants and cutlery. It doesn't have a pantry cupboard which is a bit of a downer but not the end of the world. One criticism I have of the kitchen is the tight fit into the free standing dining table at the side where it meets the fridge. That is a little on the snug side for all but the smallest of adults. Moving down to the bathroom; this is a nice size with a residential size shower. We immediately changed the shower head for an oxygenics which provided more pressure and used less water. Our problems with the bathroom came out almost immediately. There was a small spider crack about the size of a quarter in the front right hand side of the shower floor. Apparently, this is a common fault created when the factory installs the shower into the space. Again, it was easily fixed through the warranty and a local specialist who repair fiberglass fixtures. Looking at it now, you would never know it had been there. The other problem we had in the bathroom was the water leaking from under the door rail of the shower. Water ran down the glass panel on the inside of the shower, into the door rail where it then ran through an unsealed gap in the corner and under the rail. From there it ran out on to the floor. Again, an easy fix with some clear caulking. I just wish it had been done correctly during the manufacturing process. There was a second slight leak we found after moving the RV over a few hundred miles and some rough highway under construction. Then we found the shower drain to have shifted slightly and water slowly leaked out through there. Not a huge problem but enough to have the dealer fix it at the end of the season. There is a lack of robe hanging space in the bathroom so we ended up buying an over the door hook to hang a bathrobe on while taking a shower. The twelve gallon water heater easily provided enough hot water for a couple to have a decent shower each. The rear bedroom is very spacious when both slides are deployed. The closet is capable of housing a washer and dryer unit with the plumbing already provided. Plenty of drawer and clothes hanging space in the bedroom although no hanging space for full length items such as dresses. There is also no mirror in the bedroom for dressing. A full length one would have been nice. There is a 32" tv built in to the unit directly opposite the full, king sized bed. This can be a little awkward to make as there isn't much space to get in and tuck in the sheets at the head end due to its width. For me, the second exit door was adjacent to the bedroom was a must. I do like to have two exit doors on an RV. The exterior of the rig looks very good and has easily accessible storage cupboards. There is no connection to a gas line for an outside barbecue, so don't go looking for one. The hydraulic auto leveling system works great. However, there is a re-set switch that we didn't know until we needed to re-set it one day. This is located in the basement area adjacent to the hydraulic pump and where the red power lead connects to the pump unit. The button isn't visible but it is there and needs to be pressed when the hydraulic system doesn't appear to work correctly. Apparently this is cause by a drop in power; ours had been in store for about a month when it happened to us. The outside fridge is a bonus and was well used by us during the summer. There is one sewer outlet near the back door steps. We couldn't get the grey or black tanks to seal properly and had the dealer fix that. I believe there were some plastic curling from the pipes being cut that had lodged themselves into the grove preventing the valves closing properly. The galley tank also takes the water from the shower so it can fill up quickly. The main grey tank is reserved for the bathroom sink and the washing machine if you install it. There is a black tank rinse which is great. All of the power, water and tv connections are fed into a panel in the basement so everything is conveniently together. I installed a hardwired Progressive Industries 50 amp Electronic Management System to protect the appliances and wiring of the RV. Just a little extra insurance for my peace of mind. The tube provided to hold the sewer hose is a complete waste of space if you use a decent hose such as a Rhinoflex. I removed the narrow diameter tube and replaced it with a 5"x5"x 8'vinyl fence post with a length of vinyl gutter inside to act as a tray. This fits behind the OEM sewer hose storage compartment hatch and all the way across the front basement of the rig. It now provides me with the correct storage space for the sewer hose and various couplings. Using the guttering also gives me a hose support when it is in use. Our unit came fitted with a TrailAir hitch, providing a little suppression for those long, lumpy drives. We pull the RV with an F350 diesel DRW pick-up that has no problem at all. In time i will install a wireless rear facing camera system. The trailer is already prewired for one. Overall, we are very happy with the quality and appearance of the unit. Just a few minor snags and a few personal touches. I would heartily recommend this RV to anyone looking for a spacious, quality unit.Rating breakdown
