So Far So Good....
By Arni Katz (I am an Owner) on Sep 21, 2018My wife and I decided to buy a Class C motor home. We reviewed several manufacturers including Winnebago, Thor and Gulfstream.Likes...For the money we decided the Gulfstream Conquest 6237 offered the most features and nicest interior of the three manufacturers we examined. We got a great deal on a ... 2017 model that was almost like new with 3000 miles on her. Our trips are mostly the two of us with our critters but when we take our 13 year-old son, the bunk over the front cabin is perfect for him and all his stuff. The Conquest was the only RV we saw with VERY roomy storage cabinets for the upper bunk area. The Dometic roof air conditioner is the BOMB. We like it cold when we sleep and the air conditioner keeps it REALLY cold, even in 95+ degrees at a camping trip in August at Carabelle Beach in Florida. On the way to Florida we hit the worst storm in South Georgia I have ever driven through in 50 years behind the wheel. There were 80 mph crosswinds and hail the size of half dollars that hit the camper so hard it broke all three power vent covers. I was able to maintain control of the RV, albeit with VERY white knuckles but we did not have to pull over and we got through the maelstrom with very little water going into the coach. Since that event I have purchased the protective vent covers for all three power vents. Upon our return home I climbed up and examined the roof and seals and there were zero issues. The Ford 6.8 liter V10 makes great torque and the coach has no issues on mountain roads. Considering the weight of the the coach (12,000 lbs) and three people, four cats, a dog and all our stuff, the engine and transmission perform well and deliver 10-13 MPG...not bad. The cruise control is better left to gentle hills and flat roads. It always downshifts to the lowest gear climbing mountain roads and if you turn it off it's far more quiet and effective using one or two higher gears for climbing grades unless they are super steep. The duel entry storage hold is great. There is a very handy picnic table included and there is more than enough space for all your stuff. I drilled drain holes in two places in the VERY strong fiberglass floor and used rubber auto drain plugs to keep water out. It's not a breeze to hose out the storage area after messy trips, especially to sandy beaches. Dislikes... 1. The Ford stereo system is horrid and the standard speakers in the doors would have been garbage 40 years ago. Charge $400 more and put a decent sound system in your product that will actually recognize an iPhone Bluetooth. I put in quality speakers from Crutchfield which improved the sound dramatically but still zero Bluetooth so my wife cannot stream music. 2. Include the aerodynamic power vent covers and charge a little more for them. I got them retail for $30 each. They will dramatically help insulation and protect the vent covers from hail. 3. The foam in the sofa cushions sucks. After 20 minutes sitting in the dining area the foam is completely compressed and your butt is sitting on plywood. This winter I am taking the cushions to a great auto upholsterer I know and installing high density foam. The decor in the coach is gorgeous and the crappy seat foam is not worthy of the rest of the product. 4. The Gulfstream supplied owners manuals are awful. Youtube is your friend, especially if you experience quirks that will occur on ANY motor home. 5. The standard mattress in the main bedroom is standard. You will most likely want to upgrade to a better mattress.Rating breakdown
