What you're really getting
By Basil (I am an Owner) on Sep 16, 2014The wife & I bought our Elkridge E-27 a year ago and have both good & bad to say about it. First off, there is no owners manual dealing with this specific RV. Everything we have learned about the RV was through our own research, which entailed many hours. Figuring out how to turn on the hot water tank ... on electric is almost impossible. On propane its a little easier but you'll have to search the internet to find out. And this model does NOT come with a ladder and battery isolation switch, no matter what the dealer tells you. It is an extremely light RV, weighing only 7500 lbs. dry, but SHOULD NOT be towed with a 1/2 ton truck. To keep the unit light weight Heartland sacrificed many interior features that are missed very quickly, such as interior molding....there is none and all the staples and staple holes are visible. Both sinks are plastic and scratch easily. Both faucets splatter water everywhere. The entire shower is plastic and DOES NOT come sealed from the factory.....we did it after it leaked all over! The hot water tank is only 6 gallon and not nearly large enough for a woman to shower and have adequate hot water. The bed is too short for an average height person...we had to lengthen it. All cupboards and storage spaces needed vacuuming upon delivery...they were filled with sawdust and metal filings. The routing for electrical wiring through walls and surfaces were made using a jig saw and had jagged surfaces just waiting to cut the unsuspecting hand. No attempt was made at the factory to cut precise holes or to smooth them. The labels for the sewer flush inlet and city water inlet were reversed upon delivery, causing us untold misery as when we hooked up city water the sewage tank would fill and overflow into other storage tanks and the sewage flush just wouldn't work! The table seat cushions were cut too large and pushed the wood seams they fit into out, exposing shart nails. The table mounts on the floor have screws that are too small, which will cause the table to fall over, like it did with us on our 3rd trip out unless you put larger screws in. It is extremely hard to turn the outside radio speakers on and off. You'll search for that solution a while! The propane selector swith is not marked as to which tank it selects...you'll have to figure it out by trial and error. You'll need to purchase a thicker matress for the bed, as the standard one is WAY to thin. All in all, we believe this RV is not worth the $31,000 plus dollars they ask for it. On the other hand, the RV pulls like a dream with a 3/4 ton truck. Most of the ammenities work well when you finally figure them out. The 88 degree turning radius on this unit makes backing and making tight turns a breeze. Winterizing the unit is a breeze IF you can figure out how to do it without a decent owners manual. All in all, the wife and I feel a little cheated with this RV, as it is just built too cheaply. A little more quality is needed. Next time we will probably look at Montana or Cougar.Rating breakdown
