Extended Stay Feature Set
By Nebraska User (I am an Owner) on Apr 04, 2011Rather than simply extol great attributes as other reviews sometimes do, I want to discuss in detail what sets apart this FW from others: good and bad.First, at similiar price points, the fit and finish on the Jayco is second to none. The woodwork joints are precise, trim surfaces meet perfectly, caulking ... and sealing is complete and 100% coverage, the cabinetry doors (and this model has TONS) are hung perfectly square horizontally and vertically. These are the areas where you can really tell if a camper has been mass produced. They're all mass produced so when you find a camper where you'd never know it, you've found a good one. Second, manufacturers are very limited in what they can do layout-wise so you find a lot of "slide-out"-itis; slideouts that are as long as they can be and contain as much as they can. This makes the camper look extra large; unfortunately you end up with layouts that don't make sense. Sinks and counters side by side with frig/stove/micros that are 3' foot back because they are mounted in a slideout; or entertainment centers you can't see from the dining area as they're around the corner in the slideout. Jayco did not succumb to these temptations, one of the slideouts is an 8 foot'r only so that your frig/stove/micro is inline with your kitchen. On another front, I DO NOT WANT to open my slideout to load my refrigerator, put clean sheets on the bed, or use the facilities on the road. Jayco knows this (in this model) and again used their head to plan the layout. Great job. As an aside, every switch is where it should be, I cannot count the number of campers I went into where you entered the bathroom or the bedroom and the light switch or fan switch was on the opposite wall. Jayco has everything at hand, where you need it.....Campers made BY campers FOR campers. Kudos. Third, you don't buy a 36' foot camper unless it has an arms length feature set. You won't find a MSDS sheet of standard equip on Jayco campers that is artificially elongated by mentioning A/C's, 8 cubic foot frigs, tinted windows, etc. which every camper over 30' has. With Jayco you get a long list of set-apart items that don't just add dollars to the package but VALUABLE dollars to the package. Items that get used and come in handy on every single trip. Critique along this line when you compare, I believe you'll see my point. Shortcomings? Well, even here Jayco is better than every other manuf. I looked at (comparable dollar to dollar). Jayco missed the boat on the following items but nowhere near as bad as some others I saw. (These are minor pet peeves, mind you....) One: plan to purchase and cut new front storage "walls". The 1/8" pressboard is perfectly cut and beautifully prepped white; it looks good but you couldn't mount a fly swatter to a hook and hope it held up. Buy yourself 11/32nds or 3/8ths sheet and screw it to the ample studs that are backing the compartment. You can hang anything less than 5 pounds with no worries. The pass through compartment is thicker and more solid but still be careful where you tap in. Second: Not everyone is 6' tall; I counted over 25 switches in my camper, where's the switch for the ceiling fan? 6" long chains on a 6'6" high ceiling fan?? Come on now....! Third: Manufacturers listen up --> put stick on levelers on the campers before they leave the factory! Why do I have to spend 50K to go out and buy $2.00 worth of green bubble levelers? If I don't like where you put them I can peel them off but for Crip sake, I need them day one to level the damn thing, think it through, ok? Good and bad above, I come back to QUALITY construction with QUALITY materials in a WELL THOUGHT OUT configuration everytime. You don't typically purchase a 35' camper for weekend getaways; you need something that makes sense on an extended basis, and will last on an extended basis. You got it here, you can see that from the first foot on the step. A very, very solid contended for your money, simple as that.Rating breakdown
