365 living: few pros but mostly cons
By Daren (I am an Owner) on Jul 21, 2014About me: First RV, Full time living about 1.5 years, lots of driving, single occupant, 30 years old. Pros: very nice floor plan. Enjoy access to bathroom from common room and bedroom. Island is a nice touch. great to have electric and propane heat. entertainment center really makes the place look good. ... "mostly" easy to tow. RV itself has held up - no major repairs needed. Cons:"here it goes" Bed is not queen 80x60 but 76x60-> my foam pad doesnt fit. Black tank sensor virtually useless -> always says full. Dinette seating a bit thin/poor cushion material. No speakers in bedroom or bathroom (yet audio system has 3 zones). A/C loud! Main interior light switch inside panel box yet slide-out switch outside box ?!?! Insulation is paper thin -> awful winter. TV blew out (also remote buttons missing..). Can only choose electric heat or electric water-yet can have electric water and a/c-> dont get it?!?! lots of wasted space with poorly placed equipment (water heater, heater, electric panel, water pump, etc. and gaping empty unusale space behind fireplace. Outside lighting minimal. Refrigerator propane component not working. Things I've added, changed or repaired: - Added LED interior lights - Added full length mirror on bathroom side of kitchen/bathroom door - Added foam pad to mattress (plan to replace mattress and buy larger plywood). - Added large electric toaster oven & NuWave induction cook top (i hate propane) My electric toaster oven is larger than the included oven.... - Added space heater for bedroom- since electric fireplace is as far as possible from where i sleep. - Added (major project): insulated underbelly with 6" fiberglass insulation, plastic vapor barrier and plastic house siding (actually works well...) Also changed floor ducting to insulated ducting. - Repaired: 47" TV, Roku, Wireless router, Clear Internet with WiMax antenna on roof. - Repaired switch for water heater/fireplace which burnt out. Decided to add breaker - now can have heat and hot water -> back to civilization. - Repaired water heater electric element -> which meant replacing piping with PEX piping as you could not access the heating element with the PVC piping blocking it. - reenforced hinge on dinette - screw pulled out of wood -> cheap! Comment: as i took on these repairs, I couldnt help but notice how many wire pieces, wood clips, plastic bags, whole pieces of plastic sheeting and other building leftovers were left behind by the manufacturer. Just sloppy work... Overall: Knowing more about what's important, I will search for an RV without these glitches - next time. The Jayco quality wasn't what i expected it to be. Every corner uses the cheapest materials possible and in some instances, I think the engineers were drunk with the designed approach. Still, it's my home so I will upgrade, repair and continue on.Rating breakdown
