A Fantastic Trailer!
By M. Dutra (I am an Owner) on Jun 26, 2018After 8 years of ownership we still love our 230RS Outback! WE keep a Camping Log book and we have taken 52 camping trips and lived in our trailer 369 days! We bought it to replace our tent trailer, as this has 2 actual beds ready for use all the time, without converting a couch, or dinette. We sleep ... alone best, and this is our "2 bedroom" trailer. Ours came with a fold down double bed in the toy hauler section, which is always down, and my "room". The Queen gets the outback bed. Both were replaced with real quality foam mattresses off amazon. We have dry camped in the desert for 3 weeks at a time in this! Its held up VERY WELL considering the dirt forestry and BLM roads its been towed down to get to Gold claims - for prospecting! I believe they build "toy haulers" more stout as they expect some off road use. The ground clearance on this trailer is awesome! Never dragged even crossing over many creeks and culverts! I just wish they still made them, or the "28RS". Possible problem area's to look for - front cap DE-lamination from water intrusion, roof seals and condition, side drop down cook top water leaks, caulking, peeling paint around aluminum frame on rear slide out, decals don't hold up. Thankfully ours has had few to none of the above issues, but they are common potentials on this trailer.Rating breakdown

Perfect
By John (I am an Owner) on Jan 31, 2012Just purchased our 2010 Outback, and can't be more pleased. Pulls nice behind a 3/4 ton Dodge Ram, and is great for loading my ATV. Couldn't be happier.Rating breakdown

We LOVE our Outback 230 RS!
By Mike Dutra (I am an Owner) on Aug 20, 2011Having made 11 camping trips with over 3 months of camping time in this trailer, (in under a years time), I can say this trailer is FANTASTIC! I go gold prospecting, so the high ground clearance really helps as I have dragged this into some REAL remote, dirt road , outback locations with my 4x4 Chevy ... 1500 5.3 liter truck. Having the "toy hauler" room makes packing all your stuff easy. Having two bedrooms is GREAT for those who have spouses who like to sleep alone. Sad to see the newer model of this went to bunk beds, :( rather than the drop down double bed that I put a regular mattress on for comfort. This tow's real well, but is probably maxing out my 1500 Chevy when loaded with full tanks, and all the gear for 3 weeks of camping / prospecting. Adding up to a 1000# "toy" would probably require getting a more HD truck. Using a porta potty for liquids, set up in the toy hauler room, and trailer toilet for solids allows you enough black tank storage for well over 2 weeks of dry camping for 2 people! (no porta potty means about a week of dry camping black tank capacity). Gray tank fills quickly taking many showers, but if your really in the outback, its JUST sink water... Fresh water lasts a near 2 weeks, but is easy to bring 7 gallon water jugs to restock. The A/C keeps you cool in 101 degree temps and the heater worked fine in 23 degree lows. (I Use 2 Honda 2000 gens for A/C, 1 gen for battery recharging / microwave). Oven can cook a great lasagna! Refer makes fast ice cubes, and keeps ice cream fine! We camped, ("damped"), through a a week of heavy rain with no problems except humidity inside, (need more dri z air's). All in all I would buy this trailer again, today! I wish it had a side slide out, as the "living room" space is a bit narrow, but the weight of that would push this trailer over the top for a 1/2 ton truck. I wish it were bigger, but then It already is near too big / long for the 4x4 dirt roads I take it on... 27 feet of trailer is A LOT of trailer! Many CA state parks are 27' MAX length for camping! Easy Improvements so far: Replace front toy hauler foam bed pad to a real double bed mattress. (Slide out stock mattress is cheaply made, and should also be replaced with a better quality one). Place sticky back velcro tape, (bought at wal-mart), around interior side of toy hauler door, sew velcro to screen material, so you can have toy hauler door down for better ventalation and view. Replaced light bulbs with led's for less heat and energy use. Replaced TV with NAXA 22" LCD DVD combo, 12vdc. Placed 12vdc outlet on side of am / fm cd stereo case for TV and accessories use. Added towel rack under toy hauler TV shelf for coat hangers. Only real "con" is that the overhead stove hood vent fan, has no outside vent to blow the "stale" air out through the side of the trailer through! So the fan, is useless. We just drop down the outside kitchen camp burner for cooking anything that stinks, or steams too much. Not sure why they did not install the through the wall vent though... Use holmanrv.com to get the absolute BEST price, than take that to your local dealer to see if they will match it for their "best price"!!!! Even with shipping costs for a trailer like this from Ohio to CA, the Holman price was DRASTICALLY lower than my local dealer price! I bought local, but it sure brought the dealer down to a "reality" price fast! :)Rating breakdown
