Great Lightweight Family Trailer
By Charles Lemon (I am an Owner) on Jan 22, 2015We bought our 2013 KZ Sportsmen Classic 250S trailer new in April 2014. Moving from an older Class A motorhome, we were expecting to sacrifice storage space, which we did, but gained much more in return: a Queen bed for my wife abd I, 2 double bunks (each teen has their own space!), and best of all, ... we don't have to fold down the dinette or sofa unless we have extra guests overnight. Floor plan is very efficient, and the bathroom is HUGE - much larger than our old motorhome. It's great! Towing is easy. The trailer maxes out at 4800lbs GVWR, but in reality I think we travel closer to 4200lbs (haven't had it weighed ready to go yet). My 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.0L Diesel pulls it along without thinking about it. Nice and smooth at highway cruise velocity after setting up the weight distributing hitch correctly. Ours came pre-loaded with the "standard optional equipment" - roof AC, furnace, awning, etc. What ours did NOT come with, oddly, was a monitor panel for tank levels. I quickly installed one after making sure that the holding tanks were already fitted with tank sensors. I also relocated the water heater switch to the new monitor panel from its factory location on the kick-panel below the bottom bunk. Dumb place to put it, as a child climbing into bed could easily hit the switch by accident. Also missing, in my opinion, is a range hood in the galley. I know this isn't a top-of-the-line trailer, but anyone trying to cook inside the trailer (perhaps on that rainy day that never happens while you're camping) will need to vent heat, smoke, etc or risk setting the smoke alarm off (right by your head when in the galley). I'm looking at installing a range hood myself this spring. Both 12v and 110V power are there already (galley light/microwave), though I'm a bit reluctant to cut holes in my new trailer! A few other things like a noisy roof air (we can't watch TV when the air is on, as we can't get the TV volume up enough to drown out the noise) and lack of privacy curtain for the master bed remind you that this is an entry-level trailer. Overall, though, I'm very pleased with the 250S. It hits the nail on the head for a lot of things - lightweight, ease of towing, sleeping capacity, big bathroom, efficient floor plan - all for a great price. You will very likely find yourself making modifications as I did to customize the unit to your needs, but that can be part of the fun of trailer ownership.Rating breakdown
