Skyline 150 ltd
By Richard Gustafson (I am an Owner) on Mar 13, 2010We have had a Nomad 150 ltd and Weekender 150 ltd since 2008. (Nomad was stolen, replaced by Weekender). A unique layout. Rear entry door coupled with the Gaucho dinette-bed offers spacious and functional floor plan in very small footprint. The gaucho beds pull out from both sides, creating a 90" ... by 76: bed. They can also be partially pulled out, or the bolsters removed, so one can sleep while others still sit and use table. Still a downside of the setup is you have to make up and take away the bedding during the day to use the dinette. Foam used in Dinette, gaucho beds is deep and plush, much more so than other RV's we looked at. Great sleeping. Overall we feel the compromise is worth it. Dinette is very spacious and comfortable. Shower is full sized and separate from toilet. Room is a little tight in bath at toilet. I wouldn't want to be 6"5" and obese and use the bath, but for myself and wife, (we are <6 feet) its perfect. Overhead storage in front was labeled as a separate bunk, but is really inadequate for that. Its great for storage though. Good hanging closet and lots of cabinet space for the size. TV shelf a little too high for real viewing, but good as extra storage. I would consider adding an LCD TV on wall underneath on a bracket if a major issue. Underneath storage is large volume, but access doors a little small. Small footprint makes heating and air very efficient, and layout makes it easy to keep water lines warm in cold weather. Everything except grey and black water tanks in locations that can be opened to heated cabin. Since it weighs about 3500 lbs, loaded, its an easy pull. Doesn't come with tank gauges - we added digital gauges as a project. Counter top space better than many, due to use of smaller, counter top height 4.3 cu ft refrigerator. Refrigerator is a little marginal in hot weather, but OK, We have used it with no problem in 100 F and Texas Sun. Due to rear entry door, no awning over entrance door, but in use has not been a problem. 18' overall length and 30 amp service has allowed us to get spaces in parks that wouldn't work in a larger rig. We have slept three in it comfortably by sleeping 3 across 90' bed. For two, it's ideal. Has 3 burner stove with oven, microwave. Built in stereo is good. Little details like running plumbing lines in heated area and use of good low point drains make plumbing maintenance easy. Structurally, Skyline uses unique wrapping system that wraps aluminum siding over edge of frame, then fastens to wood frame, forming a aluminum-reinforced box over the wooden frame. Also use diagonal metal strapping across frame to create a diagonally braced frame. The result is a very stable wooden framed trailer. According to one independent repair company we spoke to, they had never seen Skyline trailers come in with frame leaks, and they had been in business since the 60's. They considered skyline products the best constructed wood-frame trailer in the business. Windows are not only bedded and sealed, but a bead of Parloc transparent seal is run over the window upper part of the window frame as additional sealing. Have had in torrential downpours and no leak problems anywhere. The Mansfield Texas manufacturing customer service is great to deal with. Based on our experience with dealers, I wouldn't buy a RV without a manufacturer willing to back their product and fight for the owner. Great value, very functional, ideal for two and OK for three as long as you don't mind sleeping next to each other. Note Aljo, Layton, Nomad and Weekender are identical and made in same factory.Rating breakdown
