2013 ACE 30.1: Big Mistake Don't buy One, Especaily from DeMontrond RV
By Daniel Stansbury (I am an Owner) on May 21, 2015Where to begin? RV'er what the RV to perform and that means work reliably and consistently, availability of parts and easy access to service when needed.Thor made a horrible product and DeMontrond RV knew it and sold it anyway. Thor: The quality of assembly is poor at best and they attempt to compensate ... for it by touting a custom paint job. On the first trip of the Texas summer the AC malfunctioned, it was raining condensate inside the couch thus ruining our Memorial day weekend 2013. I address the nightmare of getting it fixed later. Turns out there was a screw in the AC drip pan prohibiting the condensate from draining. This is not something easily accessible or even detectable. So blame Thor's horrid craftsman ship and DeMontrond's horrid receipt and delivery. Now the AC has fully failed, the compressor over pressurized and blew out a hose. How does this happen but for lousy parts and workmanship? The generator wouldn't come up and hold an output. This was one I had fixed at DeMontrond. They fixed it when they finally found a convenient time for them to do it, not at my convenience, theirs. Next the rear slide out is uncooperative upon retracting. I'm told it's the switch yet it extends just fine. You must toggle the switch until it finally and inconsistently retracts. Having this fixed by an authorized Good Sam Service provider. Lousy pilot seat arrangement. Normal size people have to over reach to change the radio station. The pilot seat might as well be a 5 gallon bucket as it is slightly less comfortable than an iron maiden. Add to that the fact that you cannot easily swivel the driver seat and when you do a normal persons legs dangle owing to the raised "step van" driving area and you have a pretty uncomfortable relaxation, thank God for booze. The entertainment system is sub-standard. You can't hear the radio/music while drive due to no speakers in the driving compartment. The Jensen system is cumbersome to use especially when traveling. TV in bedroom is the size of a postage stamp and is un viewable while in bed. BTW if one wishes to listen to music one must go to the driving compartment direct the speakers to the front or risk deafening the person in bed trying to sleep. Latches on exterior doors were not fitted and tightened properly. No way to hold up the left side compartments making it a pain to get your hook up hoses and cables out. Door latch in sewage/water compartment located poorly making it difficult to open and hold the door open when you cable attached. Lastly for Thor is travelablity. The coach is an oven in the summer and a meat locker in the winter. The puny AC with the truck doesn't get the job done for the driver and passenger let alone for any in the back. BTW the factory stuff it came with was so fouled up at Thor I had to snug up all knobs and switches myself since I didn't really have the time to wait for a call back for a service appointment from DeMontrond. (are you getting the idea that the dealer is not a best in class?) It's all the little things that disrupt the recreation that tend to make the ACE less an RV and more an PMV(Perpetual Maintenance Vehicle) Thor ACE 30.1 - Unsatisfactory Thor motor coach company - Unsatisfactory DeMontrond RV Sales and Service - Unsatisfactory Bottom Line: I shall not buy another Thor product nor use DeMontrond again.Rating breakdown
