Excellent motor home for the money
By Ed Herbert (I am an Owner) on Jul 30, 2013When my wife and I first saw the WInnebago Journey 40U, we were not really looking to trade from our 2004 HR Endeavor. We were happy. We owned it outright. Why would we ever trade? The floor plan which is now very popular. The extendable sofa (a very comfortable queen bed we have been told by our ... son), the electric fireplace with TV (not over the cab area but in the LR area) really wows people when they step into our motor home. The kitchen counter space is very large with big, deep drawers. The bathroom set up is private with a sink and shower behind one door, a sink and toilet behind another door, not out in the open in many RVs. The king sized bed with the sleep number mattress has been wonderful except now our bed at home isn't very comfortable. The stackable washer/dryer has been one of my wife's new favorite items. The residential french door refrigerator means we can shop once on a trip and have food all week staying cold/frozen. The Chassis and engine. We thought our old 330 hp RV was good but this 40U has the Cummins 380 hp and it pulls our tow car, a Caddy SRX4, with ease while getting 8-9 mpg in the hills of NE Tennessee. Great performance when we need it. My wife and I both drive it and both find it easy to maneuver on streets and highways or when parking on a site. The storage space. Find me another Class A diesel pusher with nearly 250 cubic feet of storage underneath. Double doors and slideout trays round out the convenince. We have not begun to fill the Journey inside or out and we have a lot of stuff, trust me. The common sense engineering of Winnebago. If we need a part, they have it or can make it to make since each part has a sticker with its inventory code. While we do not have Aqua Hot, we have yet to run out of water in our showers. Last week, 3 people taking showers each morning and all had HOT water available with our 10 gallon system. I do wish they would put heavier leveling jacks on the 40U. Those 12,000 lb. jacks might need to be upgraded to 15,000 lb. jacks. We had ours replaced within the first year as they had issues but it was under warranty and all is good again. The value. You can buy a tag axle, a more expensive unit, you can get less storage, less mpg, an extra 1/2 bath but in the end, the 40U, for savings of $50,000 or more over those larger RVs is a better value. We love our Winnebago Journey 40U and highly recommend it to people looking to hit the road full-time, nearly full-time but for those looking for an RV to park somewhere and use periodically, watch out! You will find yourself wanting to hit the road and start your own Journey as we have done in our RV. Thank you.Rating breakdown
