Great design but needs refinement and quality control
By Michael Tang (I am an Owner) on Apr 11, 2015We got our 2015 Trend 23L in August 2014 and have since put 5000 miles on it. The motorhome is exactly what we always wanted. It is small enough to park in most parking lots but big enough to be comfortable for my wife, son and myself. The gas mileage is unbeatable for an RV this size at 14.3 mpg ... average. The front-wheel drive setup allows us to make unbelievably-tight u-turns in town. The swivel front seats are comfortable and the high-cab design gives us a commanding view of the road. The small V-6 engine gives incredible power that allows the vehicle to keep up with normal traffic with ease. But the 6-speed transmission feels like it needs one more gear between 5th and 6th. I love the instantaneous mpg readout to help the driver be mindful of how you drive. The layout of the cabinet is perfect for us. We love the dinette table right between the rear double seats and the driver's seat. With the front seats swiveled back and table extended, six can seat comfortably around the table. The rear bedroom gives a separate privacy area. The ride is relatively smooth compared to our Toyota motorhome. The auto-switch refrigerator is quite big for an RV this size. On the downside, the tankless hot water heating is a blessing and a curse. You get hot water with little wait but the water temperature is hard to control. The water pump cycled on and off rapidly and was loud so the installation of a 2-gallon overflow pressure tank fixed that nuisance. There are quality control and design problems with our Trend. The bathroom door expands with humidity causing it to get stuck. One window blind along with one cabinet panel were installed crooked. The welds on the grab-handle at the side door looks like it was done by an amateur. The threads in the new dinette seat cushions unraveled on our first trip. The hidden cabinet latches were loose or broken upon delivery. The house propane heater does not work. The nice-looking bathroom faucet handles is misplaced leading to wet hands dripping on the floor. The kitchen faucet handle takes up too much precious counter space. The electrically activated bed sags in the middle due to lack of stiff support. We also worry that if the actuating motors go out or if the house battery dies, the bed would be stuck. Worst of all, there is a serious shimmy in the chasis when accelerating between 35 and 40 mph and the Dodge dealer is blaming it on the Continental tires and we are still trying to get this resolved. The worse design flaw is the low rear overhang that scraps on even mildly slanted driveways. It makes us cringe every time we enter and exit one. But overall, it is a near-perfect motorhome for us in terms of size, gas mileage, engine power, manueverability, interior layout, and looks. We get a lot of looks and questions from people wherever we go. We could have bought a lot more RV for the money but for the kind of RVing we do, this is almost perfect for us. But Winnebago needs to pay more attention to the quality control and redesign the low rear overhang.Rating breakdown

Owner perspective
By Steve (I am an Owner) on Jul 01, 2014We've had our 23L for about 90 days and while we love it, there have been some issues related its being a new unit (not all the kinks have been fully worked out). First, while ours is a 2015 Winnebago, its built on a 2014 RAM Promaster chasis. We've encountered several instances where the chasis computer ... has needed to be reprogrammed (software updates) to fix mileage related issues, a dash display that didn't work properly and a malfunctioning tire pressure monitoring system. The bad part of this was that many RAM dealers are just not all that familiar with this unit and how to fix problems. As a consequence, we've been forced to get the corporate office involved on several occasions in order to assign a special tech to help train the dealer. While this has been an annoyance and frustrating, both my wife and I are pleased with the basic RV. A well thought out design that's remarkably livable. The unit drives like a dream but I've been stuck twice on grass. Be aware, this init sinks in easily and then just spins it's front wheels. Needed to be towed twice whereas that's never been a problem in the past with MH's with dualies in the rear. Also wish it had greater freshwater capacity (only 25 gallons) to match the much larger black and grey water tanks. Assuming you're willing to work through the issues associated with a brand new unit on the market, we'd give the Trend basically high scores.Rating breakdown
