Well built rig, perfect floorplan, a few minor initial issues.
By Jon Van Allen (I am an Owner) on May 14, 2013We have been looking for the ideal trailer for a couple of years. When we saw the 26RK we knew it was what we wanted. What we found was a brand new 2012 trailer that was marked down considerably from a 2013.We had a few initial problems but those were fixed right away by the dealer. One of the issues ... was the fresh water tank was reading full when it was empty. This was the only issue related to the factory. The other issues were cosmetic from customers being in it on the showroom floor. We really appreciate is the pillow top mattress that comes with the trailer. It is a fairly decent mattress. The layout is efficient, it has everything you need, nothing you don't for serious getting away. We are to the point in life that there are certain 'must haves': Power jacks and awning. Island bed. Plenty of counter space and storage. Comfortable sofa. Large fresh water and holding tank capacity. Kitchen area separated from the living area so that meals can be prepared without others being in the way. I prefer LED lighting, especially for the obvious benefits while boondocking. I am converting some of the lights to LED. The wifey prefers annoying heat generating incandescent lights for reading so we had to compromise. I changed the bathroom vanity lights and some of the kitchen lights to LED as shown in the photos. LED lighting should be standard nowadays. Some of the 2013 and 2014 Winnebago models do come with LED lighting. We like the full size shower and porcelain toilet. There is extra hanging wardrobe space in the bathroom and plenty of shelf space for towels and other supplies. There are two 33 gallon gray water tanks, one forward for the shower and bathroom sink and one aft for the kitchen sink. The dump drain is located in front of the axles like most fifth wheel trailers, there is no plumbing hanging out behind the axles to get damaged. Dumping is much easier and the easy access black tank rinse feature is handy. No more stretching a hose to the bathroom to rinse the tank. Tanks and drain valves are enclosed and heated for colder weather camping. They are heated when the furnace runs, a clever idea. The 32" TV is made by Jensen which is a company that makes electronics for rough service. You don't need to worry about taking the rig off road and having the TV rattle itself apart. Speaking of off road, the trailer has plenty of ground clearance for off-road camping. The rig is pre-wired for cable and satellite TV (or satellite radio). This makes it nice for connecting an external XM antenna which I have done (see photos). When boondocking, we listen to XM quite often. We connect the XM to the Aux input of the built-in CD/DVD stereo system and have great sound inside the coach as well as to the marine grade outside speakers, a nice touch. The L-shaped sofa makes it easy to watch TV or face other people on the sofa. Most trailers have the TV at some neck-stretching angle from the seating so this is most welcome. The trailer comes with nitrogen filled tires. I like nitrogen because it eliminates water getting into the tires which can cause corrosion and rust and has less pressure change with temperature. The high gloss gel coat is a major step up from cheaper rigs and it looks great. The main advantage is a much higher resistance to delamination. Winnebago uses the same process on their high end motor homes. The sleeper sofa has a real mattress rather than the air mattresses found in lesser rigs. I can't say how comfortable or not the sleeper sofa is, we never use it. For boondocking I use a Yamaha 2800i (inverter) generator which easily runs the AC, microwave and wifey's hair dryer. I highly suggest using an inverter generator because the power is clean and stable. Non-inverter generators put out 'dirty' power and can wreak havoc with modern power converters which use switching technology rather than heavy transformers. As such, the electronics are sensitive to voltage spikes, brownouts and unreliable power as found in many RV parks. You would also be smart to get a good surge protector if you stay at RV parks or have a non-inverter generator. As with most coaches, the standard water pump is noisy. Do yourself a favor and get a quiet pump such as the Aquajet ES variable speed pump. Here is a link: http://www.rvupgradestore.com/ES-Effiecient-Series-Water-Pump-p/aquajetes.htm?cvsfa=3124&cvsfe=2&cvsfhu=415155414a45544553 Replacing the original pump is fairly easy, it is located under the closet in the bathroom and is accessed by removing two screws. I changed mine over in about an hour. The output is much higher and the pump is considerably quieter. The trailer pulls easy behind our Silverado 2500HD. Winnebago has balanced the trailer nicely. Brakes are very good for electric. I give this trailer 4.5 stars. The only negatives are: noisy water pump, old fashioned incandescent lights and only one entry door. I am pleased with the quality, fit and finish, definitely a step up from our previous trailer. So far so good, we really like this RV. Thanks for reading!Rating breakdown

Buying? ...Proceed With Caution
By Tom Perkins (I am an Owner) on Apr 16, 2012Bought this RV new 2 weeks ago with upgraded AC. Sitting beside house on 85 degree day with AC running for 2 hours, and all but one main area vents closed, master bedroom is 10 degrees warmer than living area. Only one diffuser / vent in MBR.....clearly a poorly designed system. So decided to install ... fan to blow air down hall into MBR, but cannot do that because there is no electrical receptacle on the hall side of the RV or near the dinette...another poor design. Jury is out on other features. Have not even been RVing yet.Rating breakdown
