2019 Forest River Sunseeker LE 2250SLE Review

2019 Forest River Sunseeker LE2250SLE Feature

The Forest River Sunseeker LE 2250SLE is a compact Class C motorhome with plenty of torque for tow duties and impressive storage.

When I was younger, my grandparents bought a Class C motorhome and did what many have done over the years; drove from their home in the Lower 48, up through Canada to Alaska. When they got back from a long trip north, we used their camper to do some much shorter trips closer to home. It wasn’t a big Class C RV and I remember how maneuverable it was. That put a special place in my heart for smaller Class C RVs and probably what drew me to the Forest River Sunseeker LE 2250SLE.

Everything about this RV makes me think it’d be perfect for me and my family. Of course, what I’d really like to do it recreate the trip my grandparents took, and haul my family North to Alaska. Maybe someday…

A Chevy?

One of the first things I noticed about the Forest River Sunseeker LE 2250SLE is that it is not built on the standard Ford platform. Instead Forest River builds this smaller RV on the Chevy Express platform that comes with a 6.0L Vortec V8 engine that produces 341 horsepower and 373 lb-ft of torque. That’s mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Why go to a Chevy platform? From what I’m told, it is because the Chevy platform fits the size and performance needs for this model. Hard core Chevy fans will appreciate it. I know my grandfather was a die-hard Chevy guy, and he would have loved it.

Small Package

The Forest River Sunseeker LE 2250SLE has an overall length of only 24’4”, making it a very short RV and one that is highly maneuverable. I’m drawn to places that some would consider hard to reach, so this is a good fit for my needs. My son laughs at me because when we go out for a ride, he says I have to turn down every dirt road I come across just so I can see where it goes. He’s not wrong.

Forest River packs a lot of features into LE models. This RV offers considerable storage, even for a small RV. There are cabinets and pass-through storage areas all around the RV, making carrying the stuff you need for your adventure pretty easy. You can also tow an additional 5,000 pounds with the Chevy-version. That means we can easily take the boat or the Side-by-Side with us when we go to Alaska.

Interior

The interior is very nice. Forest River outdid itself with this one. There is a 60” by 80” bunk above the cab and a 42” by 68” convertible dinette. There is a galley sink with a flip-down countertop, a three-burner stove, oven and microwave. You’ll also find room in the pantry and ward for your food and other items, as well as a reefer for fresh foods. In the back is a small sink and an enclosed bathroom with a shower stall.

There is one slide out for a queen-size master bed. Forest River equips all of the LE series RVs with pillow-top mattresses, which adds comfort. It makes a perfect place to stretch out and rest after a long day of catching salmon in Alaska. Man, I think I really need to go to Alaska again. I’ve been there a few times, but I flew up. I think I need to drive it, and soon.

Other nice interior features include various options for cabinet and flooring finishes. I am partial to the stone finish and weather teak cabinets. They include a 40” LCD TV and all of the appliances are stainless steel for durability and a nice look.

I highly suggest you go and check one of these machines out. The RV Show season is almost upon us and I’m looking forward to touring this and many other models. The Forest River Sunseeker LE 2250SLE can be found for under $70,000. If I can talk my wife into one, I’ll let you know. I do have a birthday coming up, so Honey… Please?
