Recreational vehicles are not often thought of as being “green,” but one man is angling to change that.

EcoFriend.com recently featured Jay Shaprio and his EcoRoamer. The EcoRoamer uses a Ford F-650 chassis and sports enormous 42-inch tires, solar panels on the roof, and a Caterpillar C7 engine that runs on biodiesel. The engine produces an impressive 850 ft-lbs of torque.

Shaprio, along with his wife and two kids, will use the EcoRoamer to trek from Alaska to the southernmost tip of South America. From there they will take a boat across to Africa and work their way across the Straight of Gibraltar into Europe and ultimately into Russia and Asia.

Check out a brief video of the EcoRoamer in action below the jump.
