Redwood is the luxury Fifth Wheel line from Thor Industries, conceived and designed with the aging baby boomer population in mind and, more specifically, those who are looking for a vehicle cut out for full-time RV living.

Of the six Redwood floorplans to choose from, we decided to take a closer look at the 2017 Redwood RW 3991RD. It has a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating of 17,900 lbs, a carrying capacity or 2,962 lbs, and a hitch weight 2,650 lbs. Its fresh water tank holds a generous 62 gallons, while it’s black water tank has a capacity of 45 gallons, and the two gray water tanks hold 88 gallons altogether.

It measures 41’5” long, 8’ wide, and just over 13’ high with the A/C unit. Frameless dual-pane windows won’t detract from whichever of the four exterior paint packages you choose. There’s a 16’ foot power awning with LED as well as a smaller awning, exterior speakers, fully finished and heated pass-through storage, and wireless back-up camera prep.

Built on a custom F.I.T (Falcon Integrated Technology) chassis, hydraulic slide-outs, and fully automatic six-point hydraulic auto level system. When it’s time to hit the road again, a memory system will return the LED-lit pinbox to the height of your truck’s hitch.

Because it’s built with full-time living in mind, there are three layers of insulation on Redwood Fifth Wheels to keep you comfortable year-round whether it’s hot or cold outside: sanded block foam insulation, fiberglass batten insulation (phenol-, formaldehyde, and acrylic-free), and radiant foil which acts as a reflective thermal barrier to reflect heat outside in the summer and inside in the winter.

Inside, you can customize the decor it to your taste by selecting from three fabric combinations and two different wood finishes for the solid maple cabinetry. Residential carpet with underpad and linoleum are a breeze to clean up with the home’s central vaccum system.

The Redwood RW3991RD has five slides, which really maximize living space and make it feel like a livable home. The slides have a full 7’ of height to line up with the flat roof line of the rest of the unit. LED lighting, from the recessed ceiling lighting to the accent lighting in the crown molding, helps keeps energy costs and unwanted excess heat low.

The living room area feels spacious and airy thanks to the two slides that each house a three-seater sofa, one of which is a hide-a-bed, leaving the entire main width of the RV as open space. It’s more than enough room to host a crowd, but you’ll have to flip a coin to see who gets the two power reclining theater-style chairs with heat and massage function, as well as built-in drink holders. The ceiling fan will be a welcome feature on warm summer nights. Adding to the open, airy feel, big windows in all the slides and along the walls allow light and breezes to flow through the space.

Directly across from the theater-style chairs, at the back of the unit, is a fireplace. At 5100 BTU, it’s enough to heat up the entire place on chilly nights. Above the fireplace is a 55″ Samsung Curved LED television with Bluray Player and a multi-zone Bluetooth sound bar with FM and subwoofer. It’s also wired for satellite. Storage space above the television gives you somewhere to stash movies, music, board games, and whatever else you want to keep out of sight.

The kitchen, in the middle of the home, has a three-burner cooktop, residential gas oven, a 22-cubic foot Whirlpool refrigerator with French doors that have an ice/water function, and a 30” microwave. The oversized divided sink with its pull-down highrise faucet is in the kitchen island. A raised glass tile mosaic backsplash, solid surface countertops, and over-island lighting add to the sense of luxury in the space. More than just a pretty face, though, the kitchen also has ample storage: plate and spice rack pullout drawers, a full-height pantry with seven more pull-out drawers and an ‘appliance garage’ complete with outlet. There is also a small island counter with more cabinets that divides the kitchen area from the living room area. The buffet style dinette table pulls out from the wall and is adjustable with a leaf extension. There are two premium hardwood dining chairs, as well as two additional folding chairs for guests.

It’s two steps up to the bathroom and bedroom area at the front of the home. In the bathroom, a one-piece fiberglass shower has a glass door with towel bar, adjustable showerhead, and a domed skylight. For storage, there’s the cabinet that houses the sink and a mirrored medicine cabinet. There is a heat and AC duct in the bathroom, as well as a Max Air fan.

In the bedroom, the King-size bed has an iCool gel foam mattress for maximum comfort. The 8’ wide walk-in closet has shelving and cubbies, as well as washer/dryer hook up. There is a window on the wall behind bed, another on one side, and one more across from the foot of the bed, under the 39″ LG LED HD television. There is also an in-floor safe to keep your valuables stuff hidden and out of the way.

The Redwood RW3991RD starts at $xx,000. For more information, visit http://www.redwood-rv.com/.
