Well made where it matters.
By Rebecca (I am an Owner) on May 20, 2014Overall, have been very pleased with the Coleman Cobalt. Heavy duty little unit. Pros: 1. Love the lift system. Easy to crank up and down.2.Easy set up.3. Easy to tow.4. Love the aluminum siding and diamond plated front plate. Seems to take road wear extremely well because of this.5. Perfect for two ... adults and 1-2 little ones. 6. Higher ground clearance to go off road. 7. Solid roof and very sturdy canvas material. We slept through a massive rain storm and kept wonderfully dry. Nothing wet or damp. 8. Stores in our garage with a ton of room left over for motorcycle, lawn mower, bikes. Cons or things we have had to alter: 1. Dinette table fell apart after first outing. Read this as several complaints with the cobalt and the Evolution series. The screws stripped right out of the table with just opening the legs. Had to take the legs off use gorilla glue on 3 pieces of boards cut in an I configuration on the bottom and then reattached the legs. Now very sturdy. 2. Metal ledges run along the length of the seats is what the dinette table sits on when stored down was poorly designed and dangerous. When an adult gets on top of the table when it is down the metal ledges acted as a lever and popped down and you fall at a diagonal to the floor hitting the metal ledge. Discovered this first time out. Placed 3 wooden column supports beneath each side of the metal ledge and glued them down and stained them to match the interior. Now exceptionally sturdy. Two adults can stand on it and it won't move. 3. Seats were too tightly fitted to move to access the storage beneath. It was tearing up the fabric. Had to remove fabric and cut down particle board a 1/4 an inch along the short side or width of the seat so that seats could now be removed without fighting them. The cons seem long, but only because I wanted to describe modifications. In reality they were simple projects and to us were minor. Most pop up owners will tell you there is some fiddling with these units once you own one. Once the kinks are worked out they are great fun. This one is no exception. It is not perfect, but we love camping in it.Rating breakdown
