The Grand Design 3100RD
By DMR (I am an Owner) on Aug 10, 2020I am one of those that has rented RVs for around 6 years, trying to find the one that will fit our life style. What we were looking for:• Two AC units – Mandatory (Texas heat is blistering) Single AC cannot keep up• My kids are young adults and are over six foot. Bunk beds are a waste. And be aware ... that they are a pain to make. Try just climbing in the top bunk. • Living area setup in a way that doesn’t interfere with the kitchen area • Plenty of sleeping for guess (Two queen bed foldout couches covers it) • Bathroom centrally located • Access to Icebox and bathroom when slides are in • Storage and more storage with a little more storage (You can never have enough, this unit has plenty) • Large enough living area for 6 plus people to enjoy The Grand Design 3100RD covers all the about (You will need a ¾ ton or 1 ton to safely pull this RV.) What the 3100RD didn’t have: • Outside Kitchen (Not that big of a deal because you can bring your own outdoor kitchen), sacrificing the outside is worth it because you cannot add to the inside. The Grand Design Company brags on its additional independent inspections and customer service. We will see how the customer service goes because the independent inspection did not catch the following: • Rip in one of the blinds • Caulking on the rubber seals on the side outs ( Very Critical Area in preventing water in your RV) o This is causing the rubber seals to stick. (Would have never seen this or caught it if it wasn’t for the fact the sticky caulking wouldn’t have forced a rip in the seal) • One of the interior speakers is blown (This could have been damaged by the dealership) Techs are all over the RV inspecting and review all appliances once you buy it. They are paid to go through and test every item and we walked up with the radio rocking when the techs where inspecting it Note to all that have never owned or rented a RV: It is a house on wheels! Always inspect and never assume anything. Know that you are buying the one item that will have issues the moment you drive off the lot with it. But for a family to enjoy their time together and explore this great land of freedom, it is worth it.Rating breakdown
