Cougar
By Tina.Billings1970 (I am an Owner) on Mar 22, 2024Nothing negative to report. We absolutely love our cougar. It has been an exceptional trailer for us. We bought ours used in 2022. It was in and still is in remarkable shape. Had to do some upkeep obviously but nothing major. We love it.

2012 Cougar High Country 245RLS
By Robert Weatherby (I am an Owner) on Sep 12, 2016We purchase our unit used in 2016. It had Tow Max tires on it, two of which had belts let loose and the tire bulged around the middle but did not blow before we were able to replace them. I upgrade one load range with the same size tire and no issues since. I found the pantry to be deep but very dark. ... It was hard to see stuff past the first foot or so in the back. I installed 12V LED lighting from Lowes. If you get a bit ram-bunksish in the bed the cable system that pulls the room in and out will allow some movement of the bedroom slide. I prefer a dinette but ours came with a table and chairs. They are ok but not as comfy, plus the loss of some storage area. The basement storage area is much larger than our old unit and has complete pass through. Our unit is equipped with the old style cam locks, they must have switched to the newer slam latches during the 2012 year model. I would have preferred the slam latches. The remote so far has worked flawlessly for the slides, awning, slides, front and rear landing gear. The inside panel for the awning and slides has malfunctioned once or twice. move the room a little with the remote and slides will start working off of the inside rocker switches. I have some flex in the pin box that concerns me. You can not see up in there to see if there is any issues so I am keeping my eye on it. Normal issues with roof needing resealed, no leaks yet, but do not want any, so preventative maintenance is the game plan. Not sure if the previous owner had issues with the fresh water tank hose or if the mfg. used garden hose between the tank and the pump. Not a good quality hose, gives water that back yard hose taste. I would replace it, but we drink bottled water anyway. Decals are curling up on the nose and flaking off. The gel coat sides are heavily oxidized. I have worked on using different products to try and bring these back. I have had some luck but no where near looking like new. Awning has work flawlessly. I am a bit concerned about the flimsy support mechanism so we always pull it in when not at the camper. The electric deploy and retraction is wonderful. I'll bet we used the manual awning on our old unit three times, just because I found it more of a hassle that it was worth to put up and take down. Use the electronic awning on almost every trip so far. We are not fans of the small couch in the rear. Would have preferred a pull out or inflatable instead of the jack knife. The windows and door seem to function ok. My wife bought silverware trays from Bed Bath and Beyond because there is not silverware drawer. I made sheet metal supports under the pantry shelves for the trays to slide in and out of. Lined the supports with felt. We like the trap door into the basement area. We keep a big plastic shopping bag in this area for recyclables. The isn't any place to hang clothes or swim wear to dry so I made a unit that sits on top of the shower stall out of CPVC piping and fittings for things to drip dry in the shower. We like the large closet in the nose and the drawers under the TV area in the bed room. In our old unit we lived out of gym bags. Big improvement. Propane bottles, one on either side, are not in locked compartments so I purchased locks for the bottle retaining brackets. It will not stop someone who really wants them but it might slow them down a bit. I have on order a King, Jack antenna to replace the bat wing. There were not instructions for hooking up cable to the TVs. I figured out that the outlet cover with the small jumper would connect cable to the TVs when cable is available. Not a fan of the windows where you have to pull in the spring loaded tabs while trying to pull up on the window to open it. These are the ones in the bedroom slide and one by the sink. I understand the bedroom because you would not want to leave a window open and try and bring the slide in, but the kitchen should have a crank open window. Hard to get to it under the cabinet to open it. Floor gives near the heater vents. Cutting holes in the chip board weakens it a bunch. I wish the person who invented it had it all back. Give me real plywood every time. So far we really like the unit and hope it holds up for a long time.Rating breakdown
