Excellent Value, Little Tweaks Needed
By Jim Osborn (I am an Owner) on Aug 26, 2012Overall, we are very satisfied with our first RV. We did alot of research, not on brand name, but on the features we desired the most. The Lacrosse 301 RLS fit the bill perfectly. It has a nice warm feel inside with the dark finish wood, unbelieveable storage space for an RV of this or any size with ... a second slide that includes a pantry, linen closet and wardrobe. The living area slideout is large and deep. The floor space is spacious, except in the bedroom which is the case for 95% of the travel trailers on the market. The only improvements would be a larger sink area in the bathroom and more counter space in the kitchen (there really isn't any). It does have a nice double refridgerator to store lots of food for longer stays. The split sink is small and I would have prefered one large sink opposed to the split sink which is small on both sides. One warning, the two chairs in the living area have very sharp corners on the top back side. Our first trip had the chairs with the backs to the walls and with the rocking, they scratched the wood finish and the wall paper. Turn them with the backs facing each other away from the walls when you travel and be careful when rocking in them that you are not too close to the wall. The wide double axel frame is an easy pull with my 2002 Chevy Avalance ZR71. I have the 1500 version and so far, no real issues with the weight. We just bought a pair of supports for the living area slideout to see if it will help stabilize it a little more. The slideout is so deep, that movement in the trailer with only the factory stabilizers, still makes the trailer rock. Hoping the additional supports will help. The fireplace in the living area is functional, not for wood burning of course, but providing some heat on cool spring and fall nights. One complaint, the bedroom mattress is a ROCK! Something softer, a memory foam topper or even an air mattress would have been nice. It's much too firm and I can't imagine anyone would enjoy it. We have been using an air mattress on top of it, but that makes it very high and difficult to climb onto. We are looking to replace it with a 4 inch memory foam mattress topper that we can trim to fit the shortened RV length queen mattress size. Overall, it's a great first travel trailer and we look forward to years of great camping. It's our home away from home and enjoy just having our own place when we are away.Rating breakdown
