Toll Hikes for RV Users on California Bay Bridges

Steep toll hikes for recreational vehicle users have been approved by the Bay Area Toll Authority in California.

By July, 2010, tolls will more than double for all RV users, as well as people towing boat trailers. Currently, a four-axle vehicle (a truck carrying a two-axle RV or trailer) pays $8.25 to cross one of the five bridges controlled by the Bay Area Toll Authority. In July that price will jump to $14 and a year later it jumps again to $20.

Despite pleas from recreation advocates who feel they are being victimized by having to pay the same tolls as commercial truckers, the Bay Area Toll Authority says they are forced by state law to base tolls on the number axles and can’t distinguish between commercial vehicles and recreational vehicles.
