The Dutchmen Rubicon is designed to ride the roads less travelled. The lightweight toy hauler is built to tackle all the elements and seasons. When its garage is not hauling your favourite toys, it can be used as a living space.

Five different floorplans are available and we chose to explore the 1905 because it is the lightest trailer offered in the lineup. Tipping the scales at 5,834 lbs (unloaded), the Rubicon 1905 has a hitch weight of 817 lbs and cargo capacity of 3,166 lbs. Breaking out the tape measure, the Rubicon has a height of 11’8” and a length of 24’8”. For liquids, it has a fresh water capacity of 82 gallons, black water capacity of 42 gallons and grey water capacity of 42 gallons.

Constructed to withstand Mother Nature’s mood swings, the Dutchmen Rubicon is tough. It has an I-beam chassis and a 102” body, 5” trussed roof and 7/8” one-piece floor decking on the main floor. The roof, floors and walls have fiberglass insulation, while the water tanks are heated and enclosed. Other features include an electric power awning equipped with adjustable legs, heavy-duty axles, 12” electric brakes and radial tires. It also has font and rear stabilizer jacks, rear screen wall and aluminum wheels. If you want to take the Rubicon 1905 off the beaten path, request an Onan generator.

For the Rubicon 1905’s greatest selling point, look no further than the garage, which features a 7” insulated bottom hinge spring assisted ramp door. Tuff-Ply gas and oil resistant Dovetail flooring won’t get damaged easily, while metal ram air vents and a fuel station, equipped with a 12V pump, 30-gallon fuel tank and a static line come standard. You’ll also find 2,500 lb tie down rings and Dovetail rear entry. The flat floor design has no wheel wells. If you’re not using your garage to store motorcycles and other toys, unfold the foldaway dinette and invite guests to relax on the two sofas.

From an outsider’s perspective, the 2015 Dutchmen Rubicon is an attractive ride. The black trim windows have tinted safety glass, while the steel loops on the chassis are designed for the outside security lock. Oversized exterior storage compartments are perfect for large, cumbersome objects. Good safety features include the loading lights on the cargo ramp and rear security work lights. Walk up the triple entry step and walk in through the radius entry door.

The key to a successful road trip is fuel. Instead of picking up snacks at a local gas station, fuel up on home cooked meals. Dutchmen equipped the kitchen with the appliances necessary for cooking a healthy meal, including 6 cu. ft. refrigerator with a black front panel, which is upgradable to an 8 cu. ft. model. For your frying needs, the kitchen also features a three-burner range and a Fantastic Fan, while a microwave/convection oven is perfect for quick reheating. Hardwood cabinet doors throughout the space feature residential cabinet hardware. When you’re ready to unwind, open a bottle of beer with the bottle opener and head to the garage, which transforms into the living room.

Every road trip needs some form of indoor entertainment. The Rubicon is equipped with a Jenson Stereo that has an AM/FM/CD/DVD Player. There are four interior speakers and two exterior marine speakers. As well, a 19” LCD HDTV comes with an outside entertainment bracket. Multiple cable connections and a directional digital TV antenna are available. Customer Rubicon foldaway furniture can be found throughout the space.

After a day of outdoor adventuring, you’ll need to disappear to the bathroom and clean yourself up. The bathroom is equipped with shower/tub surround. A skylight is located over the shower and a power bathroom exhaust fan keeps the air moving. The mirrored medicine cabinet can store your toiletries.

When you’re ready to call it a night, head to the bedroom. Small in size, the bedroom is equipped with a queen-sized bed and ample storage space, including a wardrobe and overhead compartment. Located beside the washroom, it’s a quick walk if you wake up in the middle of the night.

The 2015 Dutchmen Rubicon 1905 sells for around $29,000. For more information, visit http://www.rubiconhaulers.com/.
