Comfort doesn’t have to stay at home when you go camping. The 2012 Rockwood Premier Folding Trailer comes with all the features you need to make life on the road that much easier. This compact RV takes care of the details and combines them in a neatly packaged and functional trailer.

Recently, we had the chance to tour the Rockwood Premier 2516G – the largest floorplan in the five-model series. It has a GVWR of 3,292 lbs, a base unit weight of 2,473, a base dry hitch weight of 292 lbs, and a base dry axle weight of 2,181 lbs. In the way of measurements, the 2516G has a box size of 12’, a closed trailer size of 19’1”, a closed height of 61”, and an open trailer length of 23’9”. It also comes with a fresh water capacity of 26 gallons, and there’s the option of adding on an air conditioner wiring kit and a 20K BTU forced air furnace with electric ignition.

Built on a powder coated tubular steel frame, the Rockword Premier boasts a smooth fiberglass vacuum-bonded exterior, a fiberglass vacuum-bonded radius roof with no center seam, power coated rafter poles and bed bows and five-piece Vinolon Supreme tenting. As well, the Premier comes equipped with full perimeter aluminum bed frames and plywood bunk ends so you can rest comfortably. To make set up easy, this folding trailer comes with three-stage double arm lifter posts and E-Z crank down stabilizer jacks with sand pads. Other construction features include air conditioner reinforcing laminated into the roof and a one-piece door.

Because the drive up to the campground can be a bumpy one, the Rockwood Premier comes with everything needed to make the journey go smoothly. It comes outfitted with Alko axles and easy lube UltraLube hubs, which offer a host of advantages. Not only does it have fully independent wheel suspension, Rockwood says this system features no metal to metal contact, as well as no springs, shackles, hangers or U-bolts that can break or wear out. Plus, this folding trailer has a lower center of gravity, which gives you improved stability. To round out the package, its UltraLube hubs let you repack the bearings easily, without the hassle of disassembly.

One of the perks we loved about the Premier is that it came with an outside grill. It adds another element of convenience as well as the benefits of cooking in the great outdoors – who can resist a barbeque? The Rockwood Premier comes with the option of putting on an Add-a-Room, complete with privacy panels. It’s a great way to add more room while expanding your living area outdoors. You can use it when it’s raining, sharing a meal with the family or for enjoying that first cup of coffee in the morning. Other exterior features of note include seven-way pigtail wiring and steel radial tires.

In the way of power, the Rockwood Premier won’t leave you in the dark. You’ll be able to power your appliances with a 25 Amp and 35 Amp converter with a built-in battery charger, and a 12V safety switch ensures you won’t blow a fuse.

For families that are looking for the amenities of a larger trailer in a lightweight package, the Rockwood Premier is an interesting option. Filled with plenty of counter space, upgraded appliances and a simple yet stylish interior, this folding camper has everything needed for a comfortable camping experience. Inside, the Premier is dressed up with a Cherry interior, complete with tile-look linoleum flooring and two-tone fabric décor.

On the road, convenience is key, so it’s a good thing the Premier comes equipped with a fully functional kitchen. Helping to make your life easier is a residential-style kitchen faucet with an electric water pump, swing-level galley with storage, permanently mounted three-burner range with a stove cover, a large built-in icebox and a three-way 2.5 cubic foot refrigerator. When it’s time to eat, sit down at the comfortable family style dinette with 4” reversible cushions, or if you prefer to sit outside, use the free-standing lite-ply table.

Just because it’s a folding trailer, it doesn’t mean you have to do without a bathroom. The Rockwood Premier 2516G comes complete with a cassette shower and toilet so you don’t have to trek to the campground facilities.

For your entertainment, the Rockwood Premier has an AM/FM stereo with a CD player and a TV outlet with cable and satellite hook up.

And of course, what trailer would be complete without a bedroom. The 2516G gives you a pleasant night’s sleep thanks to a quilted top interspring mattress (there’s also the option of putting in a thermostatically controlled heated mattress as well). Also in the bedroom, you’ll find a lined privacy curtain, a hanging wardrobe and a large clothes bar.

The Rockwood Premier 2516G Folding Trailer retails for around $14,411. For more information, visit forestriverinc.com/rockwood.
