Named after the great explorer, the Palomino Columbus would have been an excellent choice for Christopher. In fact, he would’ve had more luxuries in his fifth wheel than the Queen would’ve had in her palace. The Columbus is built to trick travelers into thinking they’re relaxing at home, instead of driving on a freeway or parked in a lush green forest.

The 2013 Palomino Columbus comes in ten luxurious floorplans; we will focus on the 295RL. Its layout mimics that of a cozy home and the kitchen even has an island bar. The 295RL has a hitch weight of 1, 940 lbs, ship weight of 10,010 lbs, gross vehicle weight rating of 13,940 lbs and cargo capacity of 3,763 lbs. The 295RL has an exterior length of 34’5”, exterior height of 12’10” and exterior width of 100”. As well, it has a fresh water capacity of 64 gallons, gray water capacity of 73 gallons and black water capacity of 43 gallons. It also has an awning size of 16 ft.

Built around a welded aluminum frame, the 295RL is guaranteed to be durable. It’s built with five-sided lamination and has a 6” radius roof that is made with laminated block foam. The snap-in ceiling molding uses no staples or tape, which means it’ll last a long time and you don’t have to stress over repairs or quick fixes. Laminated interior flooring features Astro insulation, which makes it energy efficient and reliable. The unit’s holding tanks comes with 12-volt heat pads.

One thing Columbus never had on his journey to the Americas was an entertainment center as impressive as Palomino’s. Located beside the kitchen, the entertainment center is visible from most areas of the house. The 42” LED television sits above an electric fireplace, across from the dining table. Above the television you can find storage for your DVDs and chargers in the beautiful cherry cabinets. You can watch television while relaxing on the Williamsburg sleeper sofa, eating dinner at the dining table or cooking up a meal in the kitchen.

Most RV fanatics look to the kitchen when measuring a Fifth Wheel’s luxury. Luckily for The Columbus, its kitchen is top notch. Family cooks will have ample room on the multiple kitchen counters to cook daily meals and prepare lunches. The pullout pantry is spacious, allowing you to store your condiments, cereals and canned goods. Like most residential kitchens, drawers hang over and below the kitchen counters, maximizing storage and minimizing clutter. Chefs who enjoy spending time in the kitchen might want to request an upgraded eight-cubic-foot refrigerator with adjustable temperature settings. Those who can’t scramble eggs, let alone cook a steak dinner, can settle for the residential convection microwave. Our favourite part of this space is the bar. No, it’s not where you store your whiskey and rum – it’s where you wash dishes and clean vegetables. The double bowl stainless steel sink is located in an island bar in the middle of the kitchen. But if you’re really craving a bar atmosphere, you can pull up a bar stool and enjoy a beer. Family dinners can be enjoyed at the dinette.

The Palomino’s bathroom might be fancier than the one you have at home. Take a hot shower in the one-piece fiberglass shower, equipped with a seat and shelves for toiletries. Finally you can store your soap and shampoo without reaching over to the sink or floor. There’s ample room on the solid surface countertop to leave your toothbrush or to do your makeup. You’ll also find a porcelain toilet and a three-speed power vent to discard any evidence of your bathroom adventures.

At the end of the day, retreat to the master bedroom. The Queen bed comes with a pillow top mattress and High End bedspread and pillows. Store your clothes in the closet and choose your outfits in front of the mirrors located on the closet sliding doors. The cherry hardwood dresser provides extra storage for clothes. Additionally, you can keep your shoes, boxes and camping gear under the bed without taking up any space in the room. If you like watching TV before bed, you can set it up in the wall-mounted and framed TV cabinet.

One final feature you are sure to enjoy – the Palomino Columbus comes with a washer and dryer, so you don’t have to make any more trips to the Laundromat.

The 2013 Palomino Columbus 295RL fifth wheel sells for around $55,000. For more information visit PalominoRV.com.
