Perfect First RV for Family of 4
By Bruce B. (I am an Owner) on Nov 07, 2012I am no stranger to RVing. I started RVing at a few months old with my parents and grandparents through the first 15 years of my life. My father owned 3 different RVs that I can remember, all of which were travel trailers. Some were good, while others were not as much. I also got to see industry ... changes over those 3 trailers. Then I finally decided to get my own RV, I had those years of experience to rely back onto. The most important thing for me when shopping for a RV was the “Floor planâ€, as it was for my father when shopping of the next unit. I favored a rear entry way over a front entry. We had a front entry unit many years ago when I was a kid. There were some cases it presented a challenge in certain instances. I did not want anything to do that. Another important feature was a full-time queen sized bed that did not require any setup at the end of the day. Also the unit had to be less than 20 feet and have at least one slide out. I did my research on-line before heading out to any dealer or RV shows. I found a floor plan and model that fit our needs, a Lance 1685 at the time. When the family and I finally got to go see the Lance unit, we all were impressed with the unit. There were a few items that I saw as deficiencies, such as a single well sink, 2 5-gallon LP tanks, and the 30 gallons of fresh water capacity. Otherwise the unit was what we were looking for, however the price was more than we expected for such a small unit. We passed on this unit, but used it as our “Benchmark†to measure others against. We attended a RV Show in late August our area. A salesman met us at the entrance upon entering. I told him that we were looking for a travel trailer of less than 20 feet with a side out. He immediately directed us to the Springdale 190. Upon entering the unit, I was impressed with the floor plan and thought to myself, “This is exactly what we are looking for.†I further reviewed the specs for this unit. I found out this unit came with the following items that the 1685 lacked, two well galley sink, 2 7-gallon LP Tanks, 60 gallon capacity for fresh water, 34 gallons for black, and 64 gallons for grey water. We reviewed several models, other manufactures, and floor plans. We came back to the Springdale 190 and ultimately purchased it that very day. I have owned this unit for a little over a year and been out with it about 6 times already. This unit has met our every need and never has fallen short of that. It has certainly been a “Great Buyâ€â€¦ Pros: • Has increased fresh and waste water capacities compared to other units in the same market range. • Has a total of 14 gallon of Propane in two tanks, while their competitors either have a single 5 gallon tank or 2. • The “Box†sets on top of an all steel base structure. Cons: • Has a separate holding tank for the Galley sink. This creates a challenge when you are at a campsite with full hookups. This will require you to have a series of sewer hoses and a “Wye†connector to hookup all the two holding tank connections to the single sewer drain. • Interior incandescent lighting provides a “Heavy Load†on a single battery setup. 2 6-Volt Battery setup is highly recommend when “Dry Campingâ€. I upgraded all my interior lighting to LED lighting to lighten the loads on the batteries. • Not enough exterior storage space accessible for the outside. There should have been a storage bin in the side out for storage. Overall, I would rate the Springdale “8†out of a 10. It’s a great trailer and a great value that is out on the market today.Rating breakdown
