When you’re out in the wilderness, there’s only so much hiking and bird watching you can do. You need to bring along other distractions to help pass the time – like ATVs, dirt bikes, jet skis and snowmobiles. That’s where the 2011 Forest River Sandstorm Toy Hauler comes in.

There are seven spacious floor plans in the series, but for now, we’re going to be taking a spin in the SLR 2935, the largest front bedroom model in the series. The SLR 2935 has a hitch weight of 1,927 lbs, a dry weight of 7,720 lbs, a box length of 29’1” and a total length of 30’4”.

Built on 8″ I-beam chassis by Lippert, the Sandstorm is backed by 5,200 lb axles with ultra lube hubs, a wide track axle system and 6″ tube outriggers at its wheel wells. Giving this toy hauler its durability is full length floor stringers with 16″ centers, welded Z-outriggers and one piece 5/8″ floor decking, while full length linoleum flooring, fully insulated and enclosed Darco underbelly, R-8 insulation in the floor and monster basement storage nicely round out the package. Other features that come standard include 12″ electric brakes, 15″ chrome wheels, chrome spare tire and carrier, radial tires, radius entry steps and stabilizer jacks. Popular options you can choose to add on include “Add A Wall,” aluma-wall fiberglass exterior with block foam, a decked roof complete with ladder, double insulation in the roof and floor, and a front fiberglass cap.

Loading and unloading your toys is designed to be simple, thanks to the easy lift ramp door that measures 93” by 78” and comes equipped with hidden springs, a lightweight design, radius edging, back-up lights, and keyed locks for safety. It also features center and side rail 1,200 lbs tie downs, and it has a 3,000 lbs rating.

To ensure you’re surrounded by comfort and durability at all times, this Forest River toy hauler’s side wall construction features wall studs 16″ centers, custom molded fender skirts, heavy gauge aluminum siding and are double studded at all of the walls’ stress areas. For your comfort and convenience, you’ll find R-8 insulation in the walls, a radius entry door, radius slider windows with tinted glass and safety glass tinted windows.

Other great exterior features include an electric awning, an exterior speaker package, LP quick disconnect and a wash down kit with pressure washer.

Sure, holding tanks aren’t the most glamorous things to talk about, but when you’re out on the road, they sure do come in handy. It’s a good thing that the Sandstorm comes equipped with 106 gallon fresh water capacity, a black tank flush, a fuel station with a 35 gallon tank, a molded one-piece holding tank from Inca Plastics and a quick release fresh water drain.

Suitable to be used all four seasons, the Sandstorm will keep you comfortable and stocked with power no matter what the temperature is like outside. Its 30,000 BTU furnace keeps you warm when the temperature dips, while in the summer months, a 13.5 BTU air conditioner keeps things cool (and you have the option of adding a 15,000 BTU upgrade if you want). For all your power needs, the Sandstorm toy hauler comes with a 4.0 installed Onan generator.

Step inside the Sandstorm and be prepared to be pampered while on the road. Making your abode on wheels feel like home are features such as solid wood raised panel cabinet doors, a carpet kit, deluxe valances with mini blinds, a diamond plate interior, distressed Cherrywood interior cabinetry and halogen ceiling lights.

In the main living area, where we imagine you’ll be doing the majority of your relaxing, you’ll be treated to a wall mounted steel framed foldout sofa, a pedestal table and a Clarion “Pro Audio” sound system with LCD TV, DVD player, subwoofer and amp. Also in the main living area is a foldout dinette table, perfect for when the family wants to gather for meals.

Located next to the living area is the ample kitchen that comes with all the equipment you’ll need to stay well-fed while you’re on vacation. Here, you’ll find a Dometic 6 cubic foot double door refrigerator, a gourmet three-burner cook top with a cover and a microwave with a carousel. Other kitchen features that will make your life easier include metal drawer glides, pantry and sink covers.

For your sleeping pleasure, you’ll find dual electric sport beds located at one end of the toy hauler, while at the other end is the master bedroom. In the master bedroom, there’s a queen-sized bed, two nightstand tables and a bed spread with pillows and shams. Next to the bedroom is a fully equipped bathroom with a 12 volt bathroom fan, ABS tub surround and bath skylight, foot flush toilet, medicine cabinet and storage.

Other interior features include a carbon monoxide detector, a fire extinguisher, lighted storage compartments, an LP gas leak detector, a master control and systems monitor panel, and a smoke detector
