Camping is all about enjoying the simpler things in life. Leaving behind the hectic modern world behind and heading into the great outdoors to enjoy some uncomplicated down time. And to make this journey as simple as possible, Jayco offers the 2011 Baja Folding Camping Trailer.

With plenty of room for family and toys (it features a hard-core Bike Port deck that holds up to 1,500 pounds), the Baja comes in three floorplans. We’ll be taking a closer look at the 12E, the mid-sized model in this line. It has a travel length of 22′ 6″, a campsite length of 27′ 6″, an approximate travel height 69″, a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,850 lbs. and a cargo carrying capacity of 1,825 lbs.

A great thing about this folding camping trailer is that it is green certified by TRA Certification Inc. (an independent, third-party certification agency). By using environmentally friendly production methods, energy-efficient components, the reduction of waste and the use of sustainable materials, it has earned gold certification.

So, how does the Baja make your life simple? For one, it comes with the advanced lifter system that makes setting up fast and easy. This system also makes it easier to maneuver, easier to store and easier to tow. It’s fully enclosed to protect against rust and road debris. Plus, it utilizes strong, flexible push-rods to guide the roof up as you crank, while tubular lift posts with nylon bushings have no edges to chafe the DuraTek tent.

Another part of making your camping experience simpler is making sure your folding trailer is durable. And Jayco delivers – built on a corrosion-resistant frame and heavy-duty A-frame construction, the Baja has got you covered with a DuraTek water-repellent sectionalized tent and a domed fiberglass roof with no center seam, ensuring that you spend your vacation comfortably. On the floors, you’ll find it constructed of Structurwood and wrapped with Poly Flex underbelly material, while Lamilux 4000 fiberglass laminated sidewalls surround you on all sides. And E-Z Lube axles keep your camping trailer in tip-top towing shape, even if you take the road less traveled.

Other exterior features that make outdoor living comfortable include an outside shower, ramps/deck railing with quick-connect deck attachment system, two high-output marine grade exterior speakers, a double entrance step, self-storing screen door, spare tire and tire carrier, prep wiring for battery, patio light with amber lens and permanently attached bed support poles.

And just because it’s a folding camper, it doesn’t mean you’ll get left in the dark when it comes to power and plumbing. In the way of plumbing, the Baja comes outfitted with a 6-gal. water heater, a 30-gal. fresh water system with 12V demand pump, a hookup for city water and a water heater bypass system. For all your power needs, you get a 12V electrical system with 30-amp 110V converter, a 30-amp power cord and double 20-lb. propane gas bottles with vinyl cover.

To ensure that the Baja provides plenty of comfort while roughing it, you’ll find that this trailer hosts interior amenities aplenty. Features such as 12V high-intensity lighting, tinted vinyl windows with fine-mesh screening, a mildew-resistant aluminum ceiling and vinyl flooring from wall to wall let you enjoy your living space, while hand-crafted soft shade window valances provide beauty and functionality.

Happy campers will be treated to a spacious living/kitchen area, filled with a list of features designed to make your life simpler. A J-Steel sofa and a dinette with non-sliding, 4″ deep cushions with reversible EZ-clean vinyl backs offer a comfy place to sit and relax or eat. And you can have a great time inside or out thanks to the optional stereo with AM/FM/CD/MP3 jack and interior and exterior speakers. In the kitchen, there’s a 3-way refrigerator that runs on propane, electric or battery, so your food will stay cold, no matter where you go. It also comes equipped with a carry-out stove, Concord Cherry cabinetry with brushed nickel hardware, drawers made of real wood and granite-look countertop.

When it comes time to call it a day, head off to sweet dreams on king-sized beds found on either end of the trailer. They also come with bed flaps that cover the edge of bed, bunk-end fan lights and privacy curtains.

There’s even a bathroom in this folding trailer. It comes standard with a porta-potty cabinet, but you can choose to upgrade to a bath/shower with hard walls and a shower curtain.

Other popular features you may want to add on include a 16,000 BTU furnace with auto ignition, two heated bed mats, front storage box, powered roof vent, deluxe screen room, self-storing awning, water purification system, solar prep, battery gauge, polished aluminum rims, roof-mount bike rack with double cross bars and powered electric roof lift.

The Jayco Baja Folding Camping Trailer retails for $15,393. You can learn more about this model by visiting http://www.jayco.com/.
