If you’re new to the RV world and looking for an affordable coach that doesn’t compromise quality, then the 2013 Newmar Bay Star Sport is worth checking out. Newmar came up with the Bay Star Sport a year ago and its goal was to reach a low-end gas market. Although it’s an entry level gas unit, it’s built with the same construction and quality as Newmar’s other coaches.

Four floor plans are available to choose from – we explored the 2901. This model has a smart layout and caters to the comfort of the driver. The Bay Star Sport 2901 has an overall length of 29’10”, overall height of 12’4”, and width of 101.5”. Its interior width is 95.5” and interior height is 80”. It has a grey water capacity of 60 gallons, sewage waste capacity of 40 gallons, and a fresh water capacity of 75 gallons. As well, the Bay Star Sport 2901 can take 25 gallons of propane and has a 30,000 BTU furnace.

The Newmar Bay Star Sport is built on the same production line as Newmar’s other products and features a Ford F53 20,500 lb chassis. For easy driving on freeways, the chassis has cruise control, tilt steering wheel, and stainless steel wheel simulators. Inside, the sidewalls and ceiling have 5/8” laminated foam insulation. The sidewalls and roof construction are aluminium-framed, with 16” on center. The Brite Tek roof has walkable decking and a radius aluminium roof cap. The coach comes with single-pane tinted safety glass windows, one-piece tinted windshield, and Dometic 8500 awning.

Newmar’s exterior storage compartments allow you to tuck away larger and more cumbersome objects with ease. It features a rear hitch for towing a car and mud flaps to protect your coach from grime. The Bay Star Sport’s exterior sidewalls are gel coated, while the front and rear caps are fiberglass. An automatic step for the entrance door and an assist handle to help you keep balanced are also standard features.

When you walk into the Newmar Bay Star Sport, the kitchen is to your left. The first thing you notice is the Empire Maple Glaze cabinetry, which contributes to the interior’s homey atmosphere. You won’t find hinges in the cabinetry work, which is very uncommon for such an affordable coach. Another nice feature are the deep drawers in the cabinet, giving you lots of storage space for cutlery, spices and anything else you wish to tuck away. Vinyl covers the floor of the kitchen (as well as the bathroom and pantry), so cleanup couldn’t be easier.

If you like home cooked meals, you can prepare food on the laminate countertop, equipped with a stainless steel sink and plenty of room for chopping and slicing. Cook your food on the three-burner range that comes with a glass oven door. For quick re-heating, you can throw your food into the microwave. Keeping your food cool is a six-cubic-foot Dometic refrigerator with a wood panelling front and extra storage above. After you cook your meal, you can enjoy it with your family at the dinette, which can seat four to six people. A slide for ventilation and a large window are located right beside the dinette so you can enjoy the sunrise as you’re eating breakfast.

When you need to close your eyes, simply head over to the cosy bedroom. In here, the lighting is warm and the mood is perfect for a short nap or a good night’s sleep. Shelving is found on each side of the bed for electronics and alarm clocks. Sleep on a smooth top mattress with convenient lifts on the bed top. If you like natural light, then you can open the window at the back of the room. If you don’t want a window, then Newmar can accommodate you. Late-night movie lovers can request a 26” LED/LCD TV in the bedroom. You also have an option of getting two large wardrobes on both sides of the television. Below the television are six pull-out drawers, so you have plenty of storage for your knickknacks.

A pull-out pocket door separates the bedroom from the living room. A massive pantry area offers five different shelves for storage. You’ll be eating most of your meals by the dinette. You can listen to your AM/FM Dash Radio and CD player with Auxiliary Jack or watch movies on your LCD TV. As well, a cable television connection is standard so you can keep up to date on the news and watch your favorite shows.

In the bathroom, the shower, toilet, and sink sit on a vinyl floor. The ABS Shower Surround is larger than most coaches of the 2901’s size, making showering more comfortable and less claustrophobic. A laminate countertop with an acrylic sink will leave you with plenty of room for grooming and washing.

The 2013 Newmar Bay Star Sport 2901 Class A motorhome retails sells for around $108,000. For more information, videos and other floorplans, visit Newmar’s website: http://www.newmarcorp.com/.
