Low-budget travel is no longer limited to last-minute flight deals and discounted tour packages. Surprisingly, there are RVs on the market that cater to adventurous families with low budgets and high expectations. Your inexpensive RV shouldn’t have to compromise the storage space or the refrigerator. The Shasta Oasis will give your family some of the comforts of a luxury RV brand at a low price tag.

Seven floorplans are available to choose from, but we decided on the Shasta Oasis 310K. This one is built for large families – it comfortably sleeps six people. The 310K has a dry hitch weight of 630 lbs and an unloaded vehicle weight rating of 5,670 lbs. It has an exterior length of 34’8”, exterior height of 10’8”, and exterior width of 96”. The Oasis 310K has a fresh water capacity of 50 gallons, gray water capacity of 36 gallons, and black water capacity of 36 gallons. Its awning size is 17 ft.

Built on a cambered steel I-beam frame, the Oasis’ front profile has an aerodynamic radius, which makes it easier to tow. The Oasis features radius wood rafters as well as roof, sidewalls, and floors insulated with R-7 fiberglass. Its one-piece rubber roof has a 12-year warranty, while its electric room slides create more space for larger families and longer road trips.

Covered in an aluminum skin, the Shasta looks good while packing miles on the road. Its black-framed radius tinted safety glass windows keep your family’s business indoors. A molded rain gutter is equipped with extra long sprouts and the front diamond plate is equipped with a rock guard. Other exterior features include front hitch lights and an amber patio light, powered by an inside switch. The radius entry door comes with a screen so you don’t have to worry about hungry mosquitos raiding your summer home.

When you walk in, you’ll be standing on Beauflor flooring among residential furniture and updated appliances. Windows feature mini blinds and those in the living room have box valances. A 60” jackknife sofa sits in the living space beside a dinette, in front of a small entertainment center. The entertainment center comes with cable TV hookup so families that can’t live without their daily dose of morning news or evening movies can install a television. Families that want to immerse themselves in the wild jungles of their surroundings can limit their entertainment to hunting treasure and picking ticks.

If you want to hike through mountains, fight wild bears or drive to the closest Superstore, you can’t neglect the most important meal of the day: breakfast. Luckily for your family’s hearts and arteries, McDonald’s pit stops are a thing of the past. The Shasta Oasis has a kitchen, equipped with a fridge, a residential sink featuring a high gooseneck faucet, and a range hood with an exhaust fan. If there’s a Martha Stewart in your family, then request a range that also comes with an oven. This will mean less roasted marshmallows and more gourmet soufflés.

The Master Bedroom is not a palace, but it does come with a queen-sized bed and two wardrobes. Located at the far end of the trailer, the bedroom is far away from the hustle and bustle of the kitchen and bunkroom. Equipped with cable TV hookup, you can install a television and spend your nights watching the wildlife documentaries that you filmed during the day. You can stash your camera equipment, tripods, or an extra pair of underwear in the under-bed storage compartment.

If you’re not into digging holes, then you’ll want to here about Shasta’s bathroom. Equipped with a marine, foot-flush toilet, 36” tub, sink, and mirrored medicine cabinet, the Oasis 310K will make outdoor living more comfortable.

Last but not least, you can accommodate family members, neighbors or even hitch hikers in Shasta’s guest room. With two sets of upper and lower bunks, your guests can spend the night in a bed, rather than a picnic bench. They can also share a small closet that sits between the two bunks. Honored guests can even store their beer in the tall mini fridge next door to the bunks.

The 2014 Shasta Oasis 310K sells for around $22,000. Visit ShastaRVing.com for more information.
