2014 Thor Tuscany XTE 40EX Review
The Thor Tuscany XTE will make you forget that you’re on the road. Built for those who live large, the Tuscany XTE features large rooms, large wardrobes and large beds.
Four floorplans are available to choose from. We’ll explore the 40EX, the most convenient of the bunch. Like its brothers and sisters, the 40EX is designed with spacious rooms and ample storage. It also comes with two toilets, which is highly uncommon in the RV world but also highly convenient. The Thor Tuscany XTE 40EX has a gross vehicle weight rating of 32,400 lbs and a gross combined weight rating of 42,400 lbs. It has an exterior length of 40’3”, exterior height of 13’, exterior width of 101”, and interior height of 85”. The 40EX has a fuel capacity of 100 gallons, fresh water capacity of 91 gallons, black water capacity of 51 gallons, gray water capacity of 51 gallons, and water heater capacity of 10 gallons.
All four Tuscany XTE models are equipped with a Freightliner CX Raised Rail Class A Diesel Pusher Motorhome Chassis. The ISB-XT 360 hp Cummins engine comes with 800ft. lb. of torque. A six-speed Allison MH-3000 automatic transmission and 160-amp, 12-volt alternator are standard features, as are a full air front disc and rear drum, anti-lock brakes and an I-Beam front axle with a 55-degree wheel cut. The roof, walls and floors are Vacu-Bond laminated, while the pass-through basement storage is lined with fiberglass.

Long drives don’t have to drag. The cockpit is designed to be safe, comfortable and entertaining. A touch screen AM/FM/MP3/CD dash radio is equipped with a built-in back-up monitor. You can also request a 32” HD LCD TV in the cockpit (for your passenger, of course). Front-mount chrome power mirrors come with integrated side cameras. Long streaks on freeways can be tackled with cruise control. Other cockpit features include tilt-telescoping steering wheel, air horn, and an electric windshield. The driver and passenger can store maps and documents in the overhead storage cabinetry. Overnight expeditions can be navigated using map lights and cups of coffee, which can be stored in the drink holders.
Upon entering the Tuscany XTE 40EX, you’ll notice the porcelain tile flooring throughout the space. Then your attention will be drawn towards the hardwood raised panel cabinet doors and end panels. Pin-up lights brighten the living room, along with the halogen lighting that is featured throughout the interior.
The living room is a great place for family time. An Ultra Leather L-shaped sofa expands at your convenience. You can also request an Ultra Leather sofa with an airbed. Families that like TV will be excited about their 46” HD LCD television, along with satellite dish prep. You can also request an In-Motion satellite dish, which is high-definition capable and equipped with Dish Network. If you want to create a real, homey atmosphere then request an electric fireplace.

A sure sign of a beautiful home is a beautiful kitchen. The Thor Tuscany XTE proves its worth in its spacious galley, designed for cooking all meals – the simple and the extravagant. Store ingredients in the stainless steel residential refrigerator, equipped with an in-door ice and water dispenser. You can wash fruits and veggies in the sink, which has a single lever faucet and sprayer. Prepare meals on the solid surface countertops and cook on the three-burner cooktop. If you’re in a lazy mood, quickly reheat meals in the 1.8-cubic-foot stainless steel microwave convection oven. A standard Fantastic power vent means you don’t have to worry about stubborn smells clinging to your furniture. Tuscany’s residential kitchen features tile backsplash and a window that might look out at a lush green forest or sandy beach. When dinner’s ready, serve it at the Cantilever Buffet, equipped with additional storage.
After a big meal, you might want to take a nap. Escape to your bedroom, featuring a Premium King-sized Denver pillow-top mattress. With designer bedspread and throw pillows, you’ll forget about the long road ahead. Before you close your eyes, you might want to catch up on your favourite show so turn on the 32” HD LCD TV, located across from your bed. Your clothes will be neatly stored in the large dresser so you don’t have to settle for wrinkled shirts and sweaters while traveling.
Last but not least, let’s explore the spacious bathroom. It has a full height shower with a door and skylight. There’s also a foot flush porcelain toilet, equipped with a sprayer. Store your towels in the linen closet and powder your nose in front of the mirror above the sink. For your convenience, there’s a second washroom. It isn’t fancy and it doesn’t have a shower, but it does have a toilet and sink so you don’t have to wait on family members if you want to brush your teeth. If you don’t want to make regular trips to the Laundromat, then request a stackable washer and dryer, which will be placed beside the pantry, across from the smaller washroom.
