If you spend summer weekends camping in the wilderness, you might want to consider leaving your tent at home and replacing it with the Starcraft Comet. It offers comfort that your tent will never match flexible floorplans to match your needs.

Of the 10 available floorplans, we chose to explore the 3611HW with extra sleeping accommodation. With the capacity to sleep seven, it’s great for large families. It has an uploaded vehicle weight of 2,590 lbs, dry hitch weight of 355 lbs, gross vehicle weight rating of 3,300 lbs and cargo carrying capacity is 710 lbs. For measurements, the Comet has a travel length of 17’11”, campsite length of 25’4”, exterior width of 85”, travel height of 63-3/4”, interior height of 84-1/2” and wheelbase of 146-11/16”. As well, the Cargo has a fresh water capacity of 16 gallons and black water waste capacity of 11 gallons.

The seamless 5/6” Structurwood floorboard is wrapped in a Darco underbelly and double bonded to a steel frame. Designed to take on all four seasons, the 1-1/2” thick laminated sidewalls are built with wooden frames, while the one-piece roof is made of domed fiberglass, equipped with pebble finish boasting laminated side panels. The tent, which has a seven-year warranty, is made of double-stitched AquaShield Aqualo. According to Starcraft, you don’t have to worry about it stretching, cracking or shrinking, whatever weather it takes on. The bunk-end tent is permanently attached to the bed base.

Scratch-resistant exterior sidewalls are made of aluminum. The 3611HW comes with a Lifter System, Goshen Stamp – one of the most popular lift systems among pop-up tent campers – and extra wide lifter arms. If you enjoy late drinks and barbeques, then you’ll make great use of the patio light, which comes with an amber lens.

The interior has everything you need for a three-day or three-month getaway. With two king beds and an L-shaped sofa, the sleeping accommodation possibilities seem endless. Ample storage space is available to organize boots, rain coats and extra clothes. If you plan on camping in the winter months, you will want to request two bed mat heaters to keep you warm during the cold nights. Since the Comet can accommodate the entire Partridge Family, it is also equipped with privacy curtains so that you can take a peaceful nap while the kids are playing or the chef is cooking.

The family chef will love the kitchen space. It definitely beats grilling chicken over a dying campfire while simultaneously refilling the firewood. Store food in the three-cubic-foot refrigerator and cook it over the three-burner stove, equipped with a recessed stove ring. Lazy chefs can make use of the microwave. If you decide to go with the Elite Package, you will also get an oven and a double bowl sink. If you’re an early bird, you can whip up a delicious breakfast just in time for the sunrise and eat it at the dinette that sits beside a large window.

All windows throughout the camper are tinted and vinyl, equipped with a fine-mesh bug screen. The dinette has 4” deep non-sliding cushions with reversible EZ-Clean vinyl backs – comfortable and convenient. The L-Shaped Sofa is located directly beside the dinette. There’s a storage cabinet near the end of the sofa where you can keep anything from condiments to towels.

Unlike many of its competitors, the 3611HW is equipped with a bathroom – though it’s not exactly luxurious. It comes with a toilet and a shower. What more do you need, anyway?

The 2014 Starcraft Comet 3611HW sells for around $15,000. For more information visit Starcraft’s website.
