Easy on fuel and clever with space, the 2014 Winnebago Trend is a great match for families looking for an affordable summer getaway.

The Trend is available in two floorplans – the 23B and the 23L. Winnebago outfitted the 23B with a sofa bed, while the 23L has a bed without the sofa. Since we like a cozy sleep, we’re going to explore the 23L.

This compact Class C motorhome has an exterior length of 24’, exterior height of 10’4”, exterior width of 7’6.5”, awning length of 15’, interior height of 6’7” and interior width of 7’3”. As well, the Trend offers 35 cubic feet of exterior storage space.

The trend has a freshwater capacity of 26 gallons (to go along with a continuous water heater capacity), black water capacity of 32 gallons and gray water capacity of 40 gallons. Its LP capacity is 13 gallons and fuel capacity is 24 gallons. The Trend’s gross combined weight rating is 11,500 lbs and gross vehicle weight rating is 9,350 lbs.

Built on Winnebago’s new Ram ProMaster chassis, the Trend promises efficiency. The chassis features a 3.6L V6 engine and 6-speed automatic 62TE transmission. LED lighting throughout the space will save energy costs. An exterior porch light is controlled by an interior switch. Front and rear mud flaps keep your ride clean, while premium high-gloss skin should keep it looking good for years to come. As an added bonus, the Trend’s stylized aluminum wheels give the 23L a bit of sex appeal.

Step inside the Trend and you’ll be greeted by a driver’s seat with adjustable lumbar support, adjustable seat height and multi-adjustable swivel/recline. If the buzzing of traffic is uninspiring, then the driver can use the 5” LCD touch screen to turn on the radio. The touch screen also features GPS, SiriusXM and Bluetooth. IPhone or MP3 owners will be able to plug in as well. The rearview monitor system is equipped with a color camera and the doors are secured with power locks. Long drives on the highway can be tackled by the cruise control. Those travelling in cold climates will appreciate the power exterior mirrors with defrost, while sunny days will require sunvisors.

Make your way to the kitchen and you will notice the vast countertop space – the 23L features a laminate flip-up countertop extension. A single-door refrigerator is located beside a 22” HDTV television. The family cook will be thankful for the two-burner range with a glass cover. A decorative backsplash and indirect lighting creates a warm grandma-approved kitchen. The 23L also features a stainless steel sink, equipped with a dishpan, cutting board, drain pan, and silverware rack. When dinner is ready, go next door and set the table, which also takes on the identity of a StudioLoft bed with electric lift. Family members can sit in the bench seats and watch the optional 19” television.

The fairly small bathroom houses the essentials; shower, toilet and sink. The shower is equipped with a screen that is retractable and self-cleaning. There’s also a flexible showerhead and a skylight to bring in outdoor light.

When you’re ready for a good night’s sleep, you don’t have to lie down on the dining room table. Walk over to your bed. We don’t want to call this a bedroom because there’s no walking room or wardrobe. The 49” by 75” bed features a foam mattress, cover, adjustable headrest and headboard. Although storage space is limited, you can hide some of your belongings in the storage space below the bed.

When you’re travelling on the road, safety is key. Efficient with space, the Winnebago team designed three-point seatbelts into the dinette seats, equipped with child seat tether anchors. The Trend 23L is also equipped with LP, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
