Now that 2018 is in full swing and all of the new RV models have been announced, we thought we’d show you five of the best compact travel trailers for 2018.

While many of us are working at getting through winter, it doesn’t take much to get the mind wandering off to relaxing days spent around the campsite. The steady stream of cars parking at the local RV show over the weekend says I’m not alone in thinking this way either. The most popular style of RV today is the modern travel trailer, and each year the manufacturers try to improve upon last year’s sales with new features and designs. Here are five of the best compact travel trailers for 2018 that you should take a look at for the upcoming camping season.

2018 Winnebago Minnie Drop 190RD

The shape of the Minnie Drop has really become popular with RVers lately. If you go to an RV show, there is almost always people sitting inside one and usually people waiting to get in. It has a very modern classic feel that tips its hat to the 1950s style, but with a lot of modern flair. The Minnie sleeps four with a queen bed and a convertible sofa. It is full of modern conveniences and with a gross-vehicle weight of just 3,800 lbs it can be towed behind smaller trucks and SUVs with ease. The interior layout is simple, yet very comfortable and the stylish exterior colors have people wanting their Winnebago.

2018 Winnebago Micro Minnie 2108DS

For those looking for a more modern feel, Winnebago has you covered with the Micro Minnie, a favorite in the lineup year after year. The Micro adds interior space, giving you more room to relax. It has a larger bathroom than the Drop for those times when nature calls while you’re heeding the call of the wild. It sleeps four and is loaded with all the features of a modern RV. Its 7,000 lb GVW means you’ll need a little more vehicle to tow it, but if you’re looking for some luxury in a compact size, the 21-foot Minnie is a great way to go.

2018 Grand Design Imagine 2150RB

Another take on the 21-foot RV design is the Imagine from Grand Design. This stylish RV sleeps four with a nice queen bed and a convertible sofa/chaise lounge area. It comes with a nicely-sized bath area with a shower. With a GVW of 6695 lbs, the towing weight isn’t too bad. What really sets this trailer apart is the feel of the interior and the vast array of options you can pick from if you decide to order one instead of buying an in-stock model. I can tell you that the one I toured had me thinking about buying it.

2018 Starcraft Satellite 17RB

The Starcraft Satellite 17RB has a ton of appeal to it and not just because of the low price. Yeah, the $15,930 MSRP helps, but the shape of the construction has that retro vibe to it, and the simplistic comfort inside appeals to those of us that don’t want to have a nicer RV than we do a house. The 17-foot Starcraft has a nicely appointed bath with a corner shower, sleeps four and best of all, has a low GVW of just 3,790 lbs, making it towable by most mini vans even – a great feature for the best compact travel trailers to have.

2018 Jayco Hummingbird 17BH

In keeping with the theme of smaller, retro-styled travel trailers, the 17-foot Hummingbird from Jayco is another great way to hit the road. This RV goes a different route for how it is arranged that is very appealing, especially for those of us with two kids. It has two bunk beds at the front of the trailer and a smaller kitchenette and bathroom. The main bed is a convertible dinette that takes up one third of the entire trailer. This gives you lots of space to sit around together and enjoy each other’s company. I can see this coming in very handy for rainy days and card games. With a low GVW of 3,750lbs. the Hummingbird will float along behind your vehicle, too.
