RV Sales on the Rise in 2013

If you are looking for a sign that the economy is on the upswing, the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) has announced that motorhome shipments have jumped more than 30% this year through May, while travel trailers are up 11%.

All told the RV Industry shipped a total of 144,015 units over the first five months of 2013 – a 13% gain. Towable RV shipments reached 128,037 through May, compared to the 115,204 shipped in the same time period last year. Motorhome shipments are up to 15,978 units, versus 12,250 through May 2012.

Another positive sign is that shipments of RVs has gone up every month so far this year. January saw 24.4 thousand, increasing to 26.1 thousand in February, 28.9 thousand in March, 32.1 thousand in April and 32.5 thousand in May.

“You’re seeing a release of pent-up demand,” analyst Gerrick Johnson of BMO Capital Markets told Investors Business Daily (http://finance.yahoo.com/news/rv-industry-climbs-winnebago-leads-193100662.html). “People who hadn’t bought anything are now replacing.

According to the RVIA, more than nine million American households now own an RV – a 16% increase since 2001.
