When you’re in the market for a travel rig that won’t break the bank, the 2012 Palomino Sabre Silhouette Fifth Wheel is worth taking a closer look at. Offering a good mix of standard features and quality construction, the Sabre Silhouette is an intriguing choice for the family on the move.

Available in 11 different floorplans, we’ll be taking a closer look at the 291BHTS, one of the larger models in the series. The 2012 Palomino Sabre Silhouette has an exterior length of 32′ 3″, an exterior height of 12′ 5″, and an exterior width of 96″. It has a hitch weight of 1,528 lbs., a ship weight of 8,720 lbs., a GVWR of 11,688 lbs. and a cargo capacity of 2,918 lbs. In the way of water, it was a fresh water tank capacity of 42 gallons, a black water tank capacity of 42 gallons and a gray water tank capacity of 42 gallons.

One of the unique things about the Sabre Silhouette fifth wheel is that it boasts a true six-sided aluminum cage. This includes aluminum welded rafters, aluminum welded floor, aluminum welded front frame, aluminum welded rear frame, aluminum welded door-side frame and aluminum welded off door-side frame. As well, its PlaTTform slide-out floors are moisture resistant, and it comes with a heated and enclosed underbelly, and aerodynamic fiberglass front cap with fifth wheel docking lights.

Getting away from it all and making an escape for the “simpler” life is easier in the Sabre Silhouette. Outfitted with quick release snap jack pins that are mounted forward, electric powered front jacks and crank down stabilizer jacks, you can take off and set up in a snap. On the ride to your destination, you’ll have axles with the Super Lube bearing system and 15″ radial tires with optional Sumec aluminum wheels to make the drive smoother.

Other exterior features of note include an LP quick disconnect “Within Reach” water heater bypass valve, flexible 4″ rain spouts, attic vents for roof ventilation, A&E electric awning with adjustable arms, patio safety lights, safety step light at the main entrance, detachable 30-amp cord for easy storage, pass-through storage with a docking station and 30″ entry door.

One cool option you may want to consider getting is the outside kitchen. If you like to entertain outdoors, this will come in handy. It has a microwave oven, refrigerator, two-burner stove and pantry.

Inside the 2012 Palomino Sabre Silhouette, you’ll notice that the open floorplan designs create a roomy interior, including flush floor slide rooms for expanded living space. Attractive stylish decors, quality residential furnishings, and convenient built-in features come together in this innovative fifth wheel. Décor comes in six different options – Nutmeg, Taupe, Pesto, Coffee, Caramel and Desert Sand. And everything inside is built to last. In fact, all of its cabinet doors utilize Teflon spacers to prevent warping, bending and cracking and its cabinet face frames are screwed and not stapled together. For added durability, the cabinet doors are made from solid hardwood. On the floor, you’re treated to residential Beauflor linoleum with 7-year cold crack warranty, residential Shaw nylon carpet with R2X and carpet pad.

The 291BHTS’s kitchen makes cooking on the road convenient. For appliances, it is outfitted with a large 6-cubic-foot Dometic refrigerator, Magic Chef microwave and 22″ oven. Abundant workspace is a-plenty, thanks to a large countertop that surrounds a residential American Stonecast sink that can withstand 450 degrees of heat. Other kitchen amenities include raised galley faucet, food grade sink cover and cutting board, full extension drawers, knife holder and silverware drawer, residential size trash can location and residential size pantry.

In the living area, you can take a seat on the sofa or on the swivel rocker chair. Either way, you’ve got a great view of the entertainment center that’s equipped with a 32″ HD LCD TV and a CD/DVD/AM/FM player. As well, there’s a U-shaped dinette to use when it’s time to sit down and eat.

The bedroom and bathroom combination in the 291BHTS is larger than you would expect. In the bedroom, a residential queen bed with an innerspring mattress is adorned by a quilted bedspread with pillow shams and is surrounded by abundant storage in cabinetry made of solid hard wood. Additional bedroom features include dual reading lights over bed, large opposing windows for cross ventilation and storage under the bed.

In the bathroom, you can start your day with a reinvigorating shower. And with its porcelain toilet with foot flush and power flush jets and its vanity sink, you’ll feel right at home. Other features include 12v ceiling vent and fan, sky dome over shower, waterproof shower light, residential-style wood medicine cabinet, towel ring, soap dish and toothbrush holder, and air conditioning vent.

At the opposite end of this fifth wheel, there’s a flip down bunk area that’s perfect for the kids or overnight guests. This area also comes with a wardrobe and entertainment center drawer.
